Dolly Parton Just Did Something No One Has Ever Done Before — Again!
Dolly Parton has done it again! On Thursday, Guinness World Records revealed that the beloved country singer broke three world records. The association presented her with three new certificates in Nashville, Tennessee – a fitting location, as it’s where Dolly got her start.
According to a Guinness World Records news release, the three records are:
- Most decades on the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart for a female artist (seven!)
- Most No. 1 hits on the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart by a female artist (25!)
- Most hits on the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart by a female artist (109!)
Dolly already held the record for most hits on the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart with 108 top songs. She received her certification for the record back in January for her track, Cuddle Up, Cozy Down Christmas. Now, her recent hit featuring Reba McEntire (Does He Love You) helped her break her own record, putting her at 109 U.S. Hot Country hits.
Dolly also holds another record for most decades with a Top 20 hit on the US Hot Country Songs chart (six), which Guinness World Records awarded her in 2018.
Perhaps Dolly’s most impressive accolade is having hits on the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart for seven decades. The only other artist with seven decades of country hits is George Jones, with whom Dolly collaborated for The Blues Man.
“I feel like a bird that wants to fly away,” Dolly told Guinness in an interview. “Getting the first [record] was really an amazing thing to me, and I thought just to be in the Guinness Book of World Records one time would be great … I’m very honored, very proud, and I’ve had a lot of people helping me get to here, so thanks to all of you [my fans] and to all of them for helping me.”
With so many things on her plate – from funding a Covid vaccine to entertaining crowds with her classic hits – we’re grateful that Dolly continues to bring us new music. And we hope that she continues to beat her own records. Congratulations, Dolly!
