Luke Macfarlane’s Best Movies and TV Shows: Get To Know The Dreamy Hallmark Star

From the moment we first saw the rugged good looks, chiseled jaw and adorable charm of actor Luke Macfarlane we knew this guy was going to be a star. Over the years he has starred in many movies and TV shows, but really sprung onto our radar in 2014 when he was the leading man in his first Hallmark movie, The Memory Book.

Macfarlane was born on January 19, 1980, in London, Ontario, Canada. He pursued a degree in drama at Juilliard School in New York City. There he honed his skills and developed a passion for the performing arts. While at Juilliard, Macfarlane performed in numerous theatrical productions.

Then, in 2004 Macfarlane played opposite Cynthia Nixon in Robert Altman‘s miniseries Tanner on Tanner and people took notice. In 2005 his career took off, with his lead role in Over There. More recently, he’s become a big-screen star with his role in the 2022 rom-com Bros.

1. Over There (2005)

Luke Macfarlane’s television acting career kicked off with a bang when he landed a prominent role in the FX series Over There. The show, which aired for one season, was set during the Iraq War and followed a group of soldiers stationed overseas.

Macfarlane portrayed Frank “Dim” Dumphy, a complex character grappling with the realities of war. Lizette Carrion and Erik Palladino also star in the show. The series received critical acclaim for its realistic portrayal of the soldiers’ experiences and the challenges they faced on the battlefield.

2. Brothers and Sisters (2006-2011)

In the hit ABC drama series Brothers & Sisters, Macfarlane played the role of Scotty Wandell. Scotty is a pivotal character in the series, as he is involved in a romantic relationship with one of the show’s main characters, Kevin Walker, played by Matthew Rhys. Macfarlane’s portrayal of Scotty, a witty and caring man, earned him praise and recognition in the LGBTQ+ community for representing a same-sex relationship on mainstream television.

3. The Memory Book (2014)

Luke Macfarlane starred opposite Meghan Ory in his first Hallmark movie. The Memory Book is a heartwarming romantic drama. In this film, he played the role of Jeb, a character who stumbles upon a book that records the future events of the person who owns it. The story explores the challenges and opportunities that come with knowing what the future holds, all wrapped up in a heartwarming love story.

4. Christmas Land (2015)

Christmas Land is another heartwarming holiday movie that features Luke Macfarlane as the character Tucker Barnes. He plays opposite the stunning Nikki DeLoach. The Hallmark film follows the story of a woman who inherits a Christmas-themed amusement park and rediscovers the magic of the season. Macfarlane’s role adds a touch of romance and nostalgia to this charming tale.

5. The Mistletoe Promise (2016)

Another Hallmark movie, The Mistletoe Promise, features Luke Macfarlane in the role of Nicholas Derr, a successful corporate consultant. He plays opposite Jaime King. The film follows two strangers, both unhappy with their lives during the holiday season, who agree to pose as a couple to avoid the social pressures of the season. Macfarlane’s performance adds a touch of charm to the heartwarming story of love, friendship, and personal transformation.

6. The Birthday Wish (2017)

In The Birthday Wish, Macfarlane portrays the character Ryan Harris, a successful businessman who crosses paths with the film’s leading lady, Gwen Turner, played by Jessy Schram. This Hallmark movie explores the idea of making a birthday wish that leads to unexpected and transformative changes in one’s life.

In A Shoe Addict’s Christmas, Macfarlane plays a pivotal role as Jake, the guardian angel of Noelle, the film’s protagonist, portrayed by Candace Cameron Bure. This Hallmark movie is a holiday tale that explores themes of self-discovery and the true meaning of Christmas. In Sense, Sensibility & Snowmen, Macfarlane plays the role of Edward Ferrars opposite Erin Krakow in this Hallmark movie adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel Sense and Sensibility. The story is set against the backdrop of a snow-themed event planning company, and the film beautifully combines the timeless themes of Austen’s work with the magic of the holiday season.

10. Holidate (2020)

Holidate is a romantic comedy film that marked Macfarlane’s departure from the Hallmark brand. In the movie, he played the role of Peter, the older brother of the protagonist Sloane, portrayed by Emma Roberts. The film explores the idea of having a platonic “holidate” to navigate the pressures of holiday gatherings and the quest for love. A Magical Christmas Village is another Hallmark holiday film that captures the spirit of Christmas and the magic of small-town traditions. Luke MacFarlane plays a key role in this 2022 movie, directed by Terry Ingram, and co-starring Allison Sweeney.

The story follows a workaholic architect, Ben, played by MacFarlane, who is sent to a picturesque Christmas village to oversee the construction of a new ski resort. During his stay, he discovers the enchanting allure of the village, its warm-hearted residents, and, of course, the true meaning of Christmas. 12. Amish Stud: The Eli Weaver Story (2023)

In the Lifetime movie Amish Stud: The Eli Weaver Story, Luke MacFarlane takes on the role of Eli Weaver. He plays a young Amish man who faces a moral dilemma that challenges the very foundations of his community. This Lifetime film, directed by Mark Jean, delves into the complexities of Amish life. It also looks at tradition and the choices one must make when facing personal and cultural conflicts.

13. Platonic (2023)

Luke MacFarlane plays a pivotal role as one of the central characters, Chris. The show follows two friends, Chris and Alex, who share a deep and platonic bond. Notes of Autumn is a poignant Hallmark family drama directed by Niki Caro, known for her exceptional storytelling. Luke MacFarlane takes on the role of David, a musician. He’s dealing with the challenges of his own career and the strained relationship with his family. The film explores themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the power of music to heal wounds and bridge divides.

15. Catch Me if You Claus (2023)

This much-anticipated Hallmark movie stars Luke MacFarlane opposite of Italia Ricci. It has MacFarlane playing Santa’s son, Chris, on his first Christmas mission. His plans are foiled when news anchor Avery Quinn (played by Ricci) tries to unravel the mystery behind Santa. See it on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23rd 8/7c.
