Mark Consuelos Tried — and Failed — to Catch Kelly Ripa Cheating in Hilarious Scenario
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are one of America’s most beloved couples. Recently, however, the pair opened up to tell quite a hilarious story from the earlier years of their relationship when things were a little, well, confusing.
According to US Weekly, Ripa and Consuelos were asked to share stories about their marriage for a new book called What Makes a Marriage Last ($19.39, Amazon). In the book, they recount an incident in which earlier in their marriage, Consuelos tried to catch his wife cheating on him.
“After we were married, I was doing a show in Boston, and I couldn’t get a hold of her all day,” he explains. “We didn’t have cellphones then. I got a really bad feeling. So I got on a flight to New York and called her from the plane and asked her what she was doing that night.” According to Ripa, she was cleaning in their home while her husband was trying to get in contact with her. But to him, something felt off.
“Apparently, he thought that sounded very fishy. He wanted to catch me,” she says. “So he gets home and tells the doorman to call up to the apartment and tell me there’s a flower delivery. I’m excited because I’m thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, he’s sending me flowers!'” But when she opened the door, there was no flower delivery. Consuelos then stormed in looking for the “other man.”
“I have a johnny mop in one hand, and I’m wearing a bathrobe,” Ripa remembers. “So I open the door, and it’s him. He comes in — he doesn’t even say hello. He’s looking for something. I’m still looking for the flower guy! And he’s sweeping the scene!”
Of course, there was no other man, and Consuelos admits in the book that he felt bad about the situation and learned a valuable lesson about trust in relationships. “[It] feels horrible and you know you’re wrong,” he said. “I’m less jealous these days.”
Clearly, the couple survived this moment of uncertainty in their relationship and has been thriving ever since. Earlier this month on May 2, they each shared a post to commemorate their 24th wedding anniversary.
