Actress Barbara Niven Maintains a Healthy Lifestyle Using Her Simple 3 P’s Strategy

There’s a reason why actress and Women’s World cover star Barbara Niven is such a staple on Hallmark Channel and Lifetime: She lights up every room she walks into with her zeal for life and sunny disposition.

However, Niven recently opened up in the latest issue of Women’s World about her previous struggles with body image and negativity, which felt like it took up a large part of her life. “We all put pressure on ourselves to be perfect,” she explains. “But in the 40 years I struggled through my eating disorder, I never felt perfect or good enough. I only felt afraid.”

Eventually, Nevin turned those feelings around by focusing on not living her life from a place of fear. Nowadays, instead of scrutinizing every single part of her diet and exercise routine, the 68-year-old says she focuses on three P’s when it comes to her health: protein, physicality, and positivity. “Protein is big — I aim to get 50 grams a day and eat lots of fish to do it,” she says. “I also work out three times a week and make sure to get 10,000 steps in each day. It not only helps my body but also my mind.”

Another way Nevin takes care of two of the P’s is to turn on the TV and watch a very familiar channel while she walks on the treadmill. “I keep the Hallmark Channel on,” she says. “I only want positive energy in my house — it helps me stay stress-free!”
