Dolly Parton fans have been blessed with a ton of exciting new content from the Queen of Country Music lately. Whether she’s letting us know exactly what she looks like when she’s not wearing one of her iconic wigs or sharing childhood stories, it seems like Parton has been all over the place lately. However, there is one thing the songstress is keeping hidden from us.
Don’t worry, it’s nothing too scandalous. According to a recent interview with InStyle, Parton recorded a song that even her most devoted followers have never heard before. Now, you might be looking through her back catalogue of tunes from the past 50 years and scratching your head. How can there be a single melody you’ve missed?
Well, Parton has kept this particular song locked up — literally. The singer wrote and recorded “My Place in History” back in 2015 and quickly stashed it away in a time capsule before anyone else could listen to it. She also included more unique items from her life, like “little pieces” from “the porch where [she] used to sit and sing with a tin can for a microphone,” she told TODAY at the time.
Before you get upset or think it’s downright cruel of her to keep even just one of her beautiful songs from us, she does plan on releasing it… Eventually. The time capsule is currently tucked away at the DreamMore Resort at Dollywood and is scheduled to be opened on January 19, 2046 (Parton’s 100th birthday).
That’s not too long to wait, now is it? It’s just another way Parton has planned to keep her legacy alive for her fans whether she’s still here or not — though we’d bet money on her being around to celebrate the song’s release with us, too, considering what great shape she keeps herself in!
In the meantime, we can all tune into the new Netflix series based on several of the beloved hit songs that she has let us hear, Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings. And we’re sure Parton’s got plenty more new goodies in store for us for many, many years to come.
