Doris Day's Birthday Plans Include Friends and Ice Cream

Doris Day’s birthday is April 3, and we can’t help wondering how the soon-to-be-97-year-old screen star is planning to spend the day. Lucky for us, her business manager filled us in on her birthday schedule, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate.

“Doris will be spending a quiet birthday at home again this year surrounded by a few close friends,” Bob Bashara, her business manager, told PEOPLE. “She always gets lots of phone calls wishing her happy birthday. And, in the evening, she’ll enjoy a special birthday dinner followed by cake and ice cream.”

On March 28, Day’s adopted hometown, Carmel-By-The-Sea, California, hosted the Doris Day Animal Foundation Annual Benefit. The next day, the Carmel High School Center for Performing Arts screened Pillow Talk to honor the 60th anniversary of Day’s iconic film, which also featured her friend Rock Hudson. Day’s birthday week continued with performances from comedian Rich Little and pianist Michael Feinstein.

After a jam-packed few days, we’re sure Day is looking forward to a relaxing get-together with friends. Although her favorite Edy’s chocolate ice cream may not be as exciting as the gift she received in 2017. At the time, the Associated Press obtained a copy of Day’s birth certificate and found that the actress was actually a year older than she thought she was.

“I’ve always said that age is just a number and I have never paid much attention to birthdays, but it’s great to finally know how old I really am!” Day responded in a statement to AP.

“There has long been speculation and rumors about Doris’ age and we get this question a lot, looks like we finally have the answer,” her spokesman, Charley Cullen Walters, told AP in 2017. “The story I have heard the most is that at one point Doris was up for a role when quite young and her age may have been miswritten on the audition form. We don’t know if that’s correct, but if so it could’ve simply stuck for all these years.”
