Despite Online Rumors, The Princess Diana Beanie Baby Isn’t Worth Six Figures

It’s hard to forget the impact that the Princess Diana Beanie Baby had when it first came out. Introduced in October 1997 and released in December 1997, the adorable purple plush bear served as a comfort to countless fans grieving the loss of the beloved royal just months after her death. The fact that the toy benefitted the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund only further stirred interest and excitement. More than two decades after the princess passed away, people today are still interested in the Princess Diana Beanie Baby and its mysterious value.

How much is the Princess Diana Beanie Baby worth?

You might be startled to see some of the listings for Princess Diana Beanie Babies on eBay. Some are listed for thousands or tens of thousands of dollars. A few are even listed for a whopping six figures. You’d be forgiven for thinking that people are getting rich off these purple bears. But as antiques appraiser Lori Verderame explained in a 2017 interview with USA Today, that’s actually not true.

“When you see… $507,000, that’s not credible because you have to find a sales record for someone (who) actually paid the bill for that,” she said, referencing a particularly eye-popping listing.

So in order to find out how much a Princess Diana Beanie Baby is worth, you get a much clearer answer looking at products that have already sold. As it turns out, these bears have sold from prices ranging from $1 to $1,000.

As Verderame explained to USA Today, a “magic number doesn’t exist” for how much money you can get for a Princess Diana Beanie Baby, because there are so many factors involved, including condition, version, and even whether the original tag is still attached.

In other words, if you’re interested in selling your Princess Diana Beanie Baby, know that there is indeed a market for it — but don’t hold your breath expecting someone to cough up six figures for one of them.

But if you ask us, there’s nothing wrong with keeping that Princess Diana Beanie Baby to yourself for awhile. After all, whoever holds onto it also holds onto a unique and precious memory of the People’s Princess, who is still in our hearts and minds today.
