Museum Is Looking to Hire Someone to Put Puzzles Together

Tags:

If you love solving puzzles, just imagine how much you’d love piecing them together for money. Now, thanks to The Strong National Museum of Play, you can get a job as a “puzzle cataloger.” Yes, really.

The museum, based in Rochester, New York, is seeking a major picture puzzle enthusiast to put together their collection of 7,500 jigsaw puzzles that date all the way back to the 1700s. Since the job only lasts for six months, the puzzle cataloger probably won’t be able to finish every single piece of the puzzles, but he or she is only required to put together enough pieces in each puzzle to find out what the image might be and what country and time period it might be from.

Though this may sound intimidating to someone who just enjoys doing puzzles casually on the weekend, the museum isn’t necessarily looking for someone who’s an “expert” at puzzles. They actually have something much more relatable in mind for the ideal candidate.

“It’s somebody who’s curious and ready to learn,” said Christopher Bensch, Vice President for Collections at The Strong. “This is a chance to be immersed in a collection unlike any other.”

In terms of pay, the puzzle cataloger position pays more than minimum wage, but Bensch noted that the position is more about “satisfaction than riches” — so make of that what you will! That said, it does come with some pretty nice benefits, including paid time off, holiday pay, and medical coverage after 90 days with the company. Plus, there’s also the chance that you could get another gig in the museum once the six months are up, as long as you do good work.

If this sounds like your dream job, you can apply on their recruiting page with your resume and a strong cover letter. Good luck!
