Rebel Wilson Shares How She’s Slimming Down With a ‘Year of Health’

We're definitely inspired to follow her lead.

Rebel Wilson got her big break playing an a cappella singer named Fat Amy in 2012’s Pitch Perfect. Her character hid from exercise with the famous line, “don’t put me down for cardio.” In real life, she’s singing a much different tune with a recent pledge to focus on fitness and nutrition.

The actress started the year off with a post on her Instagram page saying, “Okay, so for me 2020 is going to be called ‘The Year of Health.’” Wilson shared how that mindset inspired her to “put on the athleisure” and go for a walk. After that, she “deliberately hydrat[ed] on the couch” while “trying to avoid the sugar and junk food.”

Like all of us who may or may not have indulged a little more over the holidays than we should, she admitted it wouldn’t be easy. Still, judging by how slim she is already looking, her dedication seems to be paying off!

Before declaring her 2020 fitness resolution, Wilson got a little help trimming down thanks to her role in Cats. She told Entertainment Tonight, “I lost eight pounds, shooting my number, in four days.” Not too shabby! It wasn’t just the choreography helping her shed pounds, though. “They heated up the set very high, to almost 100 Fahrenheit, so that we could never cool down.” All that heat probably helped her break more of a sweat and shed some built-up water weight — which also explains how she was able to lose so much in just a few days.

That might sound like torture, but it helped the professional dancers on set. “These people are like, the best dancers in the world, so they can’t cool their muscles down or they could get an injury and they’d be out of the film,” Rebel explained. “So they’d heat up the set like a sauna so we would never cool down, but made it pretty uncomfortable.”

Now that she’s off that set, Rebel is still heating things up with a personal trainer, Jono Castano. He shared a photo and video of the actress “putting in the yards” (Australian slang for working hard) at the gym with him seven days a week. How impressive is that level of dedication?

We’re definitely cheering Rebel on! And feeling inspired to make 2020 a “Year of Health” for ourselves, too.
