Rita Moreno is a screen legend who’s dominated Hollywood for decades, but you wouldn’t be able to guess she’s 90 years old just by looking at her. That’s because this Oscar winner and Hollywood legend has a genius beauty secret that keeps her looking young and fresh — and it doesn’t take a full glam team to do it!
The actress, who won an Oscar in 1962 for her role as Anita in West Side Story, appears on the cover of our latest Woman’s World issue (Buy from Magazine Shop, $2.99) where she shared her hard-won wisdom. From her personal encounters with racism due to her Latin roots to staying healthy as she turns 90, no topic was off limits — especially when it came to her go-to beauty secret.
“I’ll tell you, this is my own thing, the lighter the base the more flattering it will be,” she says, sharing her old school beauty tip. “I’ll tell you why it makes you look younger, because it reflects light. It doesn’t take it away from your [natural] color, but you see less wrinkles. It’s amazing and a very, very simple solution.”
“Look at my photographs, my red carpet pictures: I use a makeup that’s at least three shades lighter than my own skin,” she says. “People use very dark makeup and they are usually very orange-y. But the lighter the base color, even if it is lighter than your skin, the younger you are going to look.”
Rita Moreno’s go-to drugstore buys.
Rita Moreno’s beauty secrets go beyond just looking younger. The actress also admitted that she gets most of her beauty products from drugstores like CVS and Walgreens.
“You know I have professional makeup, but I have mostly commercial makeup,” she says. “[Like] Maybelline mascara. I just get the thickest possible one. I want it to be as thick as jam, black jam.”
She always reaches for Neutrogena products, like their sun screen duo (Buy from Amazon, $13.97). “They are very pure products which is very good,” Moreno says.
Here’s hoping that Rita Moreno’s beauty secrets will help us all look as good as she does when we’re 90. Be sure to pick up the latest issue of our print magazine to hear more from the star!
