See a Rugged Tim McGraw and Faith Hill Transport Back to the 1800s for Their New Show

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s new show is revealing a different side of the country duo. They may always look glamorous while performing on stage, but their latest adventure has them leaning into their grittier side. The longtime couple are starring in a new show together for the first time, and filming it was anything but an easy experience for the country superstars.

McGraw and Hill play a married couple in 1883, a prequel to Kevin Costner’s show Yellowstone. The new series will show how James and Margaret Dutton, the great-grandparent’s of Costner’s character, traveled on a wagon train from Texas to Montana with their children and livestock. They end up owning the largest cattle ranch in the US before Costner’s character takes over in Yellowstone. The show is set in the same year as its title.

The two certainly look the part in the trailer, which shows how gritty and rugged their characters are. But according to Hill, being covered in dirt while filming wasn’t the only hard part. She revealed that the remote sets meant she often had to “pick a tree, squat down, and do your business” when she had to go to the bathroom.

Luckily, seeing Hill get down and dirty only made McGraw love her more! He told Entertainment Weekly that filming together for the first time showed him more sides of his wife to love.

“To see my beautiful wife on horseback, firing guns, and having dirt all over her face, I just sit in awe. She’s a strong woman, anyway,” McGraw said. “[Show creator Taylor Sheridan] said early on to me, ‘Man, you’ll just get on that horse. You’re not scared of anything.’ I said, ‘I’m scared of one thing. She’s right over there.'”

But while McGraw said filming could be rough, it also let him live out a childhood dream: “It’s like every kid’s fantasy to do something like this, to put your chaps on, your cowboy hat, and your gun holsters every day. Then you get on a horse and try to survive this journey.”

Just Another Step in Tim and Faith’s Love Story

While both have dipped their toes into acting before, this is the first time the duo acts together. But fans have been used to seeing them together for years thanks to their many hit duets. They’ve even released full albums and toured the country together. Yet the thing fans love most about them is their beautiful love story.

The two first started dating when they toured together in 1996. They married the same year after finding out they were expecting their first daughter and have since welcomed two more. As their careers took off, Hill and McGraw stayed stronger than ever and recently celebrated their 25th anniversary.

Hill marked the special date by telling the story of two scuffed-up pieces of clothing that have mattered to her over the years. In the end, through ups and downs, the country singer said love and her three daughters with McGraw have been all that mattered.

Meanwhile, McGraw celebrated by telling the story of how he finally got Hill to marry him. He said he proposed to Hill “quite a few times” but she kept turning him down because she didn’t think a marriage with another country superstar would work out. But when they were playing a festival together, McGraw decided to propose again when they were in a trailer and he was about to go on stage.

“I came off the stage and went back to into my dressing room and Faith wasn’t there. But I looked at the mirror, and in lipstick it said: ‘Yes. I’m gonna be your wife,’ ” McGraw remembered. The singer said the two still have that mirror, and Hill marrying him is still “the best day of my life.”

Here’s hoping these to have many more decades of happiness — and their new show is a hit!
