So how did we arrive at these 50 names? Well, in the U.S., the average age of a first-time grandparent is 47. That would mean the grandma-to-be was born in 1970. Following that logic, we looked up the most popular baby names for that year and voila! Pretty simple, right?

That said, there will obviously be women whose names aren’t on the list but who find themselves preparing to be a grandmother for the first time. There will also be women whose names are on the list but who are still waiting for their first grandchild.

If you’re eagerly awaiting the birth of your grandson or granddaughter, there are certainly a lot of things to look forward to. According to The Spruce, 15 percent of grandparents provide regular childcare for their grandchildren, so that means you’ll get to spend a lot of one-on-one time with these little bundles of bliss. While research indicates that the birth of your grandbaby will make a small dent in your wallet, the new addition will no doubt bring more joy and happiness than any amount of money.

Congrats, grandma-to-be!
