Want to Know If the Child in Your Life Has Genius Potential? Try the Raisin Test

Tags:

Imagine being able to step in to make sure your littlest kid has all the tools to succeed in school. Now you can–just by taking a raisin, putting it under a cup, and telling your toddler not to touch it for 60 seconds.

Of course, a minute is a LONG time for a 2-year-old. But scientists at the University of Warwick say those children who can resist eating the dried fruit show the self-control and attention span they need to focus on school lessons when they’re 8. In fact, after following a group of toddlers over several years, the ones who passed the raisin test even had a seven-point higher IQ than those who didn’t.

If your child has no self-control, it may not mean anything. Parents often get different responses from their kids than scientists do. And you can always boost your child’s attention span by reading books together, telling stories, and playing simple games like Freeze!
