7 Style Resolutions Every Woman Over 50 Should Make for the New Year

Every December 31, we sit and write down a list of New Year’s resolutions. They’re usually the same as last year: eat better, move more, and spend less. Instead of entering the new year with the same intentions as the last, why not focus on something we’re all guilty of neglecting? Of course, we’re talking about our wardrobes.

Whether you’re in desperate need of a closet clean-out or are still trying to find a style that truly represents you, there are simple style resolutions we can all make for 2019 to help us tick those boxes. We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite ideas to make this year the most fashionable one yet. Feel free to tackle some or all of them!

  1. Take stock of what you have. Before you do any more clothes shopping, figure out what you own and what you need to buy. Anything you haven’t worn in months should be donated or canned.
  2. Forget about your comfort zone. Opt for something form-fitting to show off your beautiful curves instead of hiding behind your usual loose, flowy dresses. And ditch your blacks and blues in favor of bright and vibrant hues.
  3. Invest in timeless pieces. Stop buying a new item of clothing each week just because it’s cheap or on sale. Put more of your money into buying a few high-quality pieces that will last you ages and won’t rip after just one wash.
  4. Only buy clothes you love. The clothes you wear play a big role in the way other people perceive you. You want to present the best version of yourself, so why wear clothes you don’t 100 percent love? This will save you money in the long run, too, as you won’t waste cash on clothes you never wear.
  5. Be choosy. If you’re on the fence about something, put it back on the rack. You should only go back and buy it if you’re still thinking about it a few days later. Chances are you’ll forget all about it if you don’t truly love it.
  6. Cherish your clothes. Your favorite pair of boots can last you ages if you take good care of them. That means visiting a cobbler when necessary.
  7. Forget about faux pas. Who even came up with the “no white after Labor Day” rule anyway? Now’s your chance to wear what you want, when you want it.
