Keep Your Veggies and Dip, Salad, and Other Chilled Party Foods Cool for Hours With This Genius Hack

Nothing screams backyard barbecue like a fruit salad or crudités platter on a hot summer day. Cold, crunchy foods help us cool off during the intense heat. But when the sun is blaring, keeping your food fresh while it’s sitting out (especially if you’re outdoors) can prove to be challenging. Luckily you don’t have to keep your food on ice and risk it getting all soggy, we found a simple hack that can help you preserve the chill.

Keep Chilled Foods Cold

This trick is brought to you by Shannon McNitt who goes by @livingonlife101 on TikTok. McNitt recently took, to the platform to share her secret for keeping cold snacks fresh while they’re sitting out at a party. Mcnitt uses two disposable aluminum food pans, filling one a third full with cold water, and the other with her fruit and vegetables. She puts the pan with the water in the freezer for a few hours to form a layer of hard ice. Then, she places the pan with the food over the pan filled with the ice so that the ice can keep the foods chilled and fresh for hours. Isn’t that genius?

McNitt began her video saying “watch me blow your mind,” and peoples’ minds were certainly blown. Since being posted, the video has gained more than one million likes and a bunch of comments. One mom was super grateful, saying “So glad I found this on TikTok. Doing this from now on for my kids’ birthday parties!” Hear, hear!

So whether you’re serving up a chilled shrimp cocktail or a bright tropical fruit salad at your next barbecue, use this hack to make sure your food stays fresh and delicious. Here’s to a party-filled summer!
