Sipping Aloe Vera Juice Can Help Balance Blood Sugar and Boost Immunity

Tags:

Most of us only think about aloe vera when we’re dealing with a sunburn, but you’ve probably noticed aloe vera juice stocked alongside other health beverages at stores more and more often. According to experts, there’s some nice benefits we can sip up from the surprisingly tasty plant.

First, it’s important to note that so far, there have been very few scientific studies on aloe vera juice. Popular claims that it basically works as a magical elixir for things like hydration and clear skin are largely unfounded. That said, the info that can be verified is pretty promising.

For example, Diabetes.co.uk cites studies that show aloe vera juice helped improve blood sugar levels in participants, plus lowering levels of blood lipids (fat). The organization claims these perks are likely due to natural compounds within aloe, such as lectins, mannans, and anthraquinones, which can positively affect functions like blood sugar balance and carbohydrate processing.

Another article reviewed by physician Rochelle Collins, DO, points out several studies that found aloe vera juice can stimulate our immune systems. This time, it’s thanks to a carbohydrate in the plant called aloeride that helps increase protein activity connected to our immune response.

Both of these sources also warn that drinking aloe vera juice can sometimes have a laxative effect. This is also why many people drink it when they’re feeling constipated or dealing with digestive issues. Diabetes.co.uk mentions that this has also been shown to help reduce symptoms in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

However, there’s no need to worry about rushing to the bathroom every time you take a sip. Dr. Collins confirms that most people can enjoy the beverage every now and then without any adverse side effects.

So, although it might not be a magical elixir, aloe vera juice could potentially benefit those dealing with diabetes or anyone looking for an immunity boost. You can find it pretty cheap at most grocery stores now (Buy at Walmart, $2.28).
