Melissa Joan Hart Swears By This Oil to Stay Fit and Keep Her Energy Up at 43

Whether you’re a fan of Melissa Joan Hart from her Hallmark Movies, her time competing on Dancing With the Stars, or all the way back to her Sabrina the Teenage Witch or Clarissa Explains It All days, we can all agree that the beloved actress is still looking good! And, she isn’t showing signs of slowing down any time soon, either. 

So what’s her secret for staying fit despite a busy career and raising three rowdy sons (Mason, 12, Braydon, 10, and Tucker, 6) with her husband, Mark Wilkerson? Hart says it’s all about finding the energy, and she claims to get an extra boost from MCT oil, which also keeps her cravings at bay. “I’ve just started putting MCT oil into my water, which I love,” she told the hosts of People NOW. She’ll also adds it to her tea or whatever she might be drinking on set. Hart explained that it “fires up my metabolism, I think.” After adding it to her daily routine, she immediately lost a little bit of weight has able to keep it off 

That all sounds great to us, but what exactly is MCT oil? The initials stand for medium-chain triglycerides, which is a type of saturated fatty acid derived from coconuts. Fans of the oil, like Naomi Whittel, CNC, author of Glow15: A Science-Based Plan to Lose Weight, Revitalize Your Skin, and Invigorate Your Life ($12.79, Amazon), also claim it can help improve blood sugar, lift brain fog, and potentially target belly fat. You can also add it to coffee and smoothies, or basically anything you’re sipping on as it’s pretty much flavorless. It might be called “oil,” but you can’t use it to cook with since it should only be consumed raw.

Although it’s often promoted as part of the ketogenic meal plan, Hart admitted she doesn’t follow the diet. Before finding MCT oil, she previously partnered with Nutrisystems after dropping 40 pounds on their program. She and her husband also enjoy working out together and even invite friends over to exercise. “Mark recently started training me and a few of my friends at our house. It’s a lot of fun!” she explained. “The best part is that when we work out together, we just want to keep going so sometimes we end up working out for hours at a time.” It all clearly seems to be working for Hart, who seems to have non-stop acting gigs on top of raising her kids. 

That said, you should always check with your doctor before adding something like MCT oil to your own daily routine. If you get the OK, you just might be enjoying as much pep and energy, too!
