If You Have Diabetes This New All-in-One Blood Glucose Monitor Could Make Life Much Easier

Tags:

For people living with diabetes, having endless supplies always on hand to prick their fingertips throughout the day is wildly inconvenient. However, a new device from Intuity Medical called the POGO Automatic that just came on the market is an all-in-one blood sugar detection device that makes the process much more convenient.

Roughly one in 10 Americans have diabetes, and often daily management includes taking multiple blood glucose tests per day to ensure that sugar numbers are stable. This usually involves juggling numerous test strips and lancets during daily life and testing them individually to get an accurate reading; all of that equipment can be expensive and annoying to carry around, to say the least. But that’s where POGO comes in: Users just need to press a single button on the device to get a reading, plus it can store up to 10 test strips at a time and provide a glucose number on the spot without needing a refill. Additionally, it’s small, handheld, and discreet, meaning it’s easy to use no matter where you are.

“For people with diabetes, routine blood glucose monitoring is central to the management of their diabetes. Yet for many, the barriers that come with using traditional blood glucose meters often prevent people from testing regularly,” Emory Anderson, president and CEO of Intuity Medical, Inc, explained in a press release. “We are excited to offer POGO Automatic to people with diabetes to help alleviate their frustration and free them from those barriers to testing with an easy-to-use product that provides an accurate glucose result in a matter of seconds.”

While the device doesn’t take the place of a continuous monitoring system, which has to be worn at all times, the POGO Automatic is an important advancement that’ll make the process of keeping an eye on blood sugar levels much easier for millions of people. It’lbe available at CVS and Walgreens locations nationwide in the coming months, with the device plus 50 tests costing $32 and the reusable meter costing $68. Intuity Medical also has a deal right now to potentially get a free device, so it’s worth looking into!
