A Live Musical Version of ‘A Christmas Story’ Will Air on Fox This Year

Tags:

As if it wasn’t enough that Hallmark has 33 new Christmas movies coming out this year and Lifetime just announced six new Christmas movies, now Fox will air A Christmas Story Live! musical this holiday season. Christmas-themed TV is just the gift that keeps on giving, isn’t it?

If you think the live production of the musical is the most exciting of all the announcements, we think you’ll be even more thrilled when you hear about the fantastic cast starring in it. First of all, Matthew Broderick will be narrating the story, which all but guarantees a great kickoff to the entertainment. Jane Krakowski of 30 Rock fame stars in the movie as young Ralphie’s teacher, Miss Shield. Meanwhile, Chris Diamantopoulos, known for his role in Silicon Valley, stars as Ralphie’s dad, and Maya Rudolph of Bridesmaids stars as Ralphie’s mom.

As for the protagonist Ralphie himself? Well, he’ll be played by the adorable 11-year-old actor Andy Walken. Judging by this clip, he looks absolutely ecstatic to fill the shoes of such an important role. We can’t say we blame him.

Too cute, right? These TV networks continue to spoil us with so many presents (er, we mean movies and shows) to look forward to this year. Though this three-hour special in particular won’t air until mid-December, this early announcement gives us plenty of time to plan ahead to watch — and of course, get in the holiday spirit for the big event.

FOX will air A Christmas Story Live! on December 17 at 7 p.m. ET. We can’t wait to tune in!
