Make Your Own Wheat Bags for Pain and Tension Relief

Wheat bags are a wonderful way to soothe a headache or warm you up in the winter. These colorful bags can be whipped up in a jiffy, and you’ll want to warm them up for use all season long!

Wheat is available from most health food stores. Prepare a little tag for each bag explaining how to heat it safely: one minute in the microwave with a small cup of water to prevent wheat from drying out.

What You’ll Need

  • Wheat
  • Funnel
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Iron
  • Needle and thread
  • 8 inches by 12 inches piece of fabric
  • 4 inches by 12 inches piece of fabric in a complementary pattern
  • 13 inches length of ribbon

Notes: do not use synthetics fabrics — use natural materials only!

Instructions

  1. Cut two 8-inch by 6-inch panels, two 4-inch by 6-inch panels, and two 6-inch lengths of ribbon.
  2. Pin one large and one small panel together, joining the sides that measure 6 inches, right sides together, and sew.
  3. Repeat with the remaining two panels.
  4. Press the seams to one side and, on the right side of the fabric, pin the ribbon over the seam and stitch in place.
  5. Pair up the side panels, right sides together, and pin along all sides.
  6. Stitch around all four sides, leaving half of one short side open for turning.
  7. Turn the bag right side out and press.
  8. Insert funnel through the opening and pour in wheat until bag is about three-quarters full. Hand stitch the opening closed.

That’s it! You can now warm your wheat bag and place it on tired feet and legs at the end of the day, or even over your eyes to soothe you off to sleep. We hope this super simple project keeps you cozy all season long.
