New Weather Pattern Means Parts of the U.S. Could See Snow This Week

Tags:

Just when you thought the crazy weather was over — we did just have two major hurricanes rip through the Caribbean and Florida as well as Texas and Louisiana — Mother Nature throws another curveball: snow!

According to The Weather Channel, a cold front is blowing through the Rockies, and that means residents could see snow as early as the end of this week. Brrr! This new weather pattern flips the script for the Northwest and East Coast; you can expect cold weather out west and warmer weather in the east.

Parts of Montana are actually under a winter storm watch this week (seriously!), so it seems as though fall is officially here. Meteorologists are predicting up to two feet of snow in Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana at elevations higher than 8,000 feet. To make matters worse, rain will accompany that snow.

The jet stream is dipping so far south out west, and as a result, the eastern parts of the U.S. can expect warmer temperatures on their end. If you live out west, temperatures might be mild right now, but you can expect a drop by the end of the week. While it might be too warm at lower elevations for the snow to accumulate on the road, if the snow becomes heavy, that could cause some problems. Hikers and campers in the Rockies are being warned about the weather change.

While snow, for some of us, is bad news, there’s a major silver lining: Experts believe the incoming weather will help slow the wildfires in parts of the Pacific Northwest.

For those on the East Coast, temperatures may have dropped a bit because of Hurricane Irma, but temperatures will rise as the week ends. Warmer weather is here to stay at least through the weekend, though a cold front next week will potentially bring more rain and thunderstorms to the area.
