7 Ways to Make Extra Cash While You Surf the Internet

Need a little extra cash? You can make extra money at home — and you may even have a secret windfall sitting in your closet, basement, or even on your cell phone. Here’s how to find that extra money quickly.

1. Sell your stuff.

Are there hidden treasures in your closet? “I believe that everyone has $1,000 laying around their home,” declares frugal living expert Lauren Greutman. “You just have to find the right things to sell.” Would you believe that vintage Jantzen bathing suits, for example, sell on eBay for as much as $300? Or that some vintage rock-and-roll t-shirts sell for more than $400? Head to the back of your closet and pull out that still-cute outfit or handbag, and shoot a photo to post it for sale on eBay.com, PoshMark.com or Tradesy.com. Tip: Got a lot to unload? Head to a resale shop in your area or mail items to chain shops like 2ndTimeAround.com or CrossroadsTrading.com

2. Don’t toss toys.

Action figures, Beanie babies, board games, even old Happy Meal toys can bring in quick cash on sites like eBay and Swap.com. Buyers on BrickLink.com even want old Lego pieces. “Blocks that are no longer made, odd colors, and unusual pieces like a red Darth Vader helmet can grab $500 or more,” reveals Bruce Littlefield, author of Garage Sale America.

3. Cash in on spring sports gear.

Spring means buyers are hunting for baseball gloves, soccer balls and other sports equipment. You may have just what a neighbor is seeking! Just list the gear online locally at OfferUp.com or post it on Facebook, and you won’t even have to bother with shipping.

4. Price it right.

To avoid accidentally selling a treasure for pennies, check out recent “sold” prices for similar items on eBay using the site’s advanced search engine. For instance, an ordinary looking Wilson Vintage A2000 XL Baseball Mitt recently was bid up to $394 on eBay.

5. Be a virtual assistant.

Fancy Hands.com will pay you good money to make appointments, do data entry or other tasks. You could make as much as $7 per task to start. “You’re free to work whenever you like, and this site is very beginner-friendly,” says work-at-home expert Anna Thurman.

6. Get paid for your opinions.

Companies need people like you to give them feedback on potential products. Just complete an online survey to earn up to $10 or get a gift card. Pinecone Research.com, InBoxDollars.com, OpinionOutpost.com and Swagbucks.com are good ones, says Greutman.

7. Broken? Sell it anyway.

Your old smartphone, laptop or tablet could be worth hundreds at Gazelle.com and NextWorth.com — even if it’s not in pristine condition. Gazelle may even buy your phone if the screen is cracked or you can’t turn it on. And if your coffeemaker conked out, say, post the carafe on eBay: There is a vibrant market for hard-to-find replacement parts on older appliances.
