4 Easy Ways to Save a Ton on Takeout and Delivery

Tags:

Less frequent trips to the grocery store and more time spent at home mean an increase in meal and food deliveries — a cost that adds up fast. These pro tips can help!

Score up to 15 percent cash back.

Cash-back apps that you download to your phone or computer, like Rakuten or Ibotta, don’t just reimburse you for retail purchases, they work for food delivery services too, says shopping expert Lisa Lee Freeman of the Hot Shopping Tips podcast. For example, Rakuten has offered up to 11 percent cash back on orders made via Grubhub and 4 percent on Uber Eats. And Ibotta has given 2 percent back when you order with Grubhub or Seamless Delivery. To get back even more, pay with a credit card! Cards like the Marvel Mastercard and Capital One Savor offer 3-4 percent cash back at most restaurants.

Get free drinks or entrées.

Have a favorite restaurant that you continue to order from time and again? Many have rewards programs that are free to join and offer things like free appetizers or points toward purchases, which can earn you a free meal! For example, Chipotle Rewards offers 10 points for every dollar spent. Rack up 1,250 points, and you’ll earn a free entrée, like a burrito or a chicken bowl! At Dunkin’, you’ll earn five points for every dollar spent, and with every 200 points you earn, you get a coupon for a free regular-size beverage.

Nab 84 percent off with coupons.

Before placing your order, visit Restaurant.com, a site that offers coupons that can be used at more than 62,000 restaurants, including IHOP, Subway and more! A recent deal? Four $25 coupons that can be used at local restaurants for just $16 — an 84 percent discount! Simply plug in your ZIP code to find participating restaurants in your area.

Also smart? Look for discounted gift cards at GiftCardGranny.com or Raise.com. Recent offers included 10 percent off an Olive Garden card and 20 percent off a Ruby Tuesday card. Costco also sells $100 gift card packs for just $80 — a 20 percent savings!

Slash costs on delivery.

Delivery services are vying for your business, so they’re offering deals that supercharge savings! Grubhub and Seamless Delivery are waiving the delivery fee, as is Uber Eats, which also frequently offers a $7 off coupon, while DoorDash has been offering a coupon for 25 percent off your first order!

Switch delivery services each time you order, and you’ll save $4–$8 on the first few meals! Order a lot? For $9.99 a month, Grubhub+ gives you unlimited free deliveries from participating restaurants and $10 cash back for every $100 you spend.
