What shoes will be popular in spring 2023?
There is something for everyone and every occasion when it comes to spring shoe trends of 2023. At least, if what we saw at New York’s recent Fashion Week is any indication.
There were classic pointy heels appearing at a number of shows, including Bevza, Jason Wu, and Elena Velez. Most were in solid colors, like basic black or white, but we also saw the look in shimmery metallic from Victor Glemaud.
Some were ballet flat style — also trending — while others were in kitten heels or pumps. We love this look for work, especially paired with a pencil skirt, high-waisted pants or skinny jeans.
One of our favorite pointy heel looks is the Damzil Pump (DSW, $99.99) from Steve Madden. It’s a slightly modern take on the shoe staple and looks great with many different outfits.
Another spring shoe trend of 2023 that we’re loving is the platform.
As someone who grew up in the 90s, I’m attracted to anything from the 70s (my generation pulled a lot of looks from that decade). On the practical side, platforms can be more comfortable than stilettos, and offer more support than flats.
We’re seeing platforms in many different styles this season. For example, they’re appearing with chunky heels — another shoe trend — as seen in these Dorit Slip On Loafers (Famous Footwear, $54.99), but they’re also being paired with sandals and flatforms.
If you’re not familiar with the latter, they also have a raised footbed but the platform doesn’t impact the height of the heel. The style is being showcased in sneakers, as well as slides.
Other spring shoe trends for 2023 include:
- Mary Janes
- Peep toes
- Cowboy boots
- Sheer fabric
- Neon colors
Are flats in style for 2023?
If you find heels unbearable or have issues like plantar fasciitis, you’ll be glad to know that flats are in style for 2023. We’re seeing this in the form of ballet flats as well as dressier styles, such as point toe flats.
If flats don’t strike you as exciting as heels, you’ll be happy to know that many of the flat shoes have fun embellishments. Think sequins, bows, or low block heels, making them as interesting as a stiletto and more comfortable.
Are chunky heels in style for 2023?
Yes, yes, and yes! Chunky heels are a huge spring shoe trend for 2023. Can you tell I’m excited?
If you love heels but your feet don’t, chunky heels are your best friend. Unlike stilettos, they have a larger surface, which gives the foot more support as it moves. Another great thing about them? They vary in height, so if you want to add more length to your gams, you can have those extra inches without putting extra strain on your calves.

Best Spring Shoe Trends for 2023
These embellished wedges are on point with several spring shoe trends for 2023: texture, a platform, and a touch of sparkle. They’re not obscenely high, making them a great option on days you want something a little dressy but need to walk with ease. A rubber sole keeps footing sure on uneven sidewalks, and the zip-up closure covers the heel. Available in 12 different colors and with more than 6,000 Amazon happy customers giving them 5 stars, the sandal will quickly become a favorite. (Note: Reviewers suggest sizing down if you’re in between sizes.)
Promising review: “Bought these for a cruise. They’re so cute and comfortable. I haven’t been able to wear heels for years because of back issues, but I didn’t have any problem with these! And my husband likes how they look too!”
Leather exterior, a chunky heel, and slip-on style — what more could you want? The Dorit Platform Loafer is a great everyday shoe, offering arch support and height without being a pain in the ankle. It’s not only the thick bottoms that make these trendy shoes for spring comfy. They also have a cushioned foam insole, which means that even as you’re pounding the pavement, your toes will remain unbothered. Available in cognac, as well as black, they look amazing with wide-leg pants or jeans. Grab them at Nordstrom, DSW, or Famous Footwear, and prepare for compliments.
Editor’s review: I love anything that reminds me of the seventies, so it was true love when I saw the Dorit Platform Loafer. Although I’ve never been crazy about the shoe style as a flat, when a chunky heel is added to it — place on my feet now, please! Zodiac was generous enough to send a pair and I wasn’t disappointed.
For the most part, platforms are far more comfortable than standard heels. However, I do have some battle scars (technically, callouses) from ones that had an unforgiving footbed. Besides the height that these gave me, the cushion interior made it easy to wear all day. Other women seem to love them, too. No matter if i’m at the doctor’s office or just walking around, someone compliments them. They’ve become one of my favorite pairs!
For days off, slip into something more comfortable like the Vivienne Ballet Flat. Featuring the iconic, slip-on style that everyone loves, these trendy shoes from Naturalizer have a grip sole and some inner cushion in the back. Happy Nordstrom Rack customers love the insole, and even though they’re on the plainer side, many report enjoying wearing them around the office. Along with being available in black, you can also grab them in yellow, cognac, lavender, and black.
If you didn’t hop on the cowboy boot trend last fall, there’s still time. The lightweight footwear is perfect for spring, pairing wonderfully with your best leggings. We love the stitched detail of this western boot from Steve Madden. It’s delicate and won’t overpower your ensemble. They’re zip-up, which is great for those who have athletic calves, and the heel is only 2 inches high. Available in an off-white, as well as black, they’re the hee-haw look your closet ordered.
Promising review: “Perfect and so cute, I’m gonna look like a heartache on the dance floor in Nashville!“
Every woman’s closet needs at least one pair of showstopper heels, and the Della Platform Sandal from Marc Fisher is it. The sleek and modern shoe is definitely on trend this year, but these are still classic enough that you’ll wear them for years. If the height intimidates, remember that block heels are far easier to walk in than pencil thin stilettos. The toe cap (the front of the shoe) is wide enough to keep the foot in a natural position, while the ankle strap keeps the foot in place. If you opt for it in black patent leather, you’ll literally be able to pair it with everything. However, we also love the shoe in medium pink suede, sky blue suede, and the blush patent leather. There are seven colors to choose from in total, and sizes go up to 12.
Editor’s review: Anyone who knows me knows that I love a high heel. Back in my twenties, I wore them everyday, and one pair that was on high rotation came from Marc Fisher. Gawd, I wish I could insert a photo for you readers! They were gorgeous: leopard print, open-toed, and featuring a 4 inch heel. Everyone loved them, especially me.
I knew when researching spring shoe trends for 2023, that I had to try the Della Platform Sandal. Was I little nervous about the height? Yes, but I also knew that quality makes a huge difference when it comes to footwear comfort, and that Marc Fisher hadn’t steered me (or my feet) wrong in the past.
I’m telling you ladies, if you’re harassing yourself to lose 10 pounds before summer, skip it and go for these shoes instead! They elongate the leg so beautifully; you’ll be amazed by the slimming effect of the extra height. More importantly, they really are comfortable. The block heel gives the back of the foot just the right amount of support, so you’re not teetering on the front of your toes. I have narrow feet, so I tend to slide in some shoes, but the frame of these were perfect. If you have wider feet, you may want to consider another pair. However, if your foot shape is average, narrow or even if you have a high arch (also like me), these are glove-like status.
We love the slim-thick heel of this pointed toe Vince Camuto shoe, especially in the snakeskin finish. The strap isn’t adjustable but there’s some elastic to keep the foot secure, as well as light grip on the bottom of the sole. Available in eight other colors, it’s a great option for a classic look to dress up jeans or a pencil skirt for work. According to some happy customers on Nordstrom, the shoes run large, so don’t be afraid to size down.
Promising review: “Love this sling back. Perfect heel height and the color is great for the spring and summer. These will be my go to shoe soon!”
Wedges may seem like a summer style but they’re also hot for spring. This look from Fanco Sarto has a 4.5 star rating on Amazon, comes in more than 20 colors, and have metal detail on the heel to add a touch of sparkle. The straps are 100 percent leather, and there’s extra cushioning in the sole to keep you blister free. Some happy customers report that they run small, so if your feet are on the larger side, don’t be afraid to order up a size.
Promising review: “These sandals are great! They appear to be well-made, and are surprisingly comfortable. I have bunions on both big toes, and thanks to the wide foot strap, these hold my foot right with no added pressure on my wonky bone.”
Looking for something spiffy to wear with work slacks? These slip-on style Tully loafers are a great option. Leather on the interior and featuring a cushioned sole bed, the low platform shoe is under 2 inches and as comfy as they come. Gold buckle detail in the front keeps them far from boring, and tread on the bottom makes them ideal for every type of surface. Happy customers on Zappos say they fit true to size, plus have good arch support and a comfortable width.
Promising review: “These loafers were the perfect update to my classic, contemporary wardrobe. They fit perfectly! I have several styles from Sam Edelman, and have always been more than satisfied.”
No closet is complete without a pair of Keds, and the height the Triple Up Leather Sneaker gives makes them perfect not only for pants but flowy skirts. The chunky sneakers feature a genuine leather exterior and offer extra cushioning, making them easy to walk in and eye-catching. Available in 14 different colors, they’re a simple way to enjoy the platform shoe trend without sacrificing an ounce of comfort.
Promising review: “Love the extra height you get from these sneakers, but the comfort sole you can’t beat. They cushion your feet and absorb the shock. They are my go-to footwear after work and on weekends.”
What could go sweeter with a pair of jeans and a cardi than these clogs from J. Crew. Boasting a genuine wood sole, we’re not sure if we could manage hours in these beauties if they were super high. Fortunately, the low heel makes them super wearable, and the strap can be positioned two ways for stability. Place around the back of the heel for more support. Prefer a slide-in style? Put the strap over your foot. Happy customers recommend sizing up if you’re in between sizes.
Promising review: “I love these clogs even more than those I had in elementary school. J. Crew’s are nice and comfy and much quieter than [those]. Thank you for bringing back a true enhanced classic!”
Why we like it:
- Good for narrow feet
- Rubber sole
- Multiple color options
Nothing is as easy as a pair of slides, and these have the perk of being fancy enough for semi-special occasions. The cut is narrow, so they stay in place without an ankle strap or back, and the raffia encasing the platform is the stuff boho-dreams are made of. We see this slip-on shoe with a frilly sundress or gauzy pants, but they also work well with jeans, shorts, or a flirty skirt. The upper sole is real leather, and the rubber bottom serves well on slippery surfaces.
Giving your dogs a break? No problem. The Minnie Travel Ballet Flat from Tory Burch are as stylish as a pair of stilettos and more forgiving on ankles. Adorned with the designer’s signature logo on the front of the toe, the flats come in more than 10 colors, including neon — another spring shoe trend we’re seeing everywhere. Layered foam cushioning in the footbed provides additional support, and the elastic back topline keeps the shoe on as snug as Cinderella’s glass slipper.
If you’ve had your eyes on the Salvatore Ferragamo Women’s Otilia Gancini Round Toe Pumps but can’t swing the price tag, these slingback pumps from Dune London are the perfect dupe. They also feature a low block heel and sophisticated front hardware. For a go-with-everything look, opt for black. However, if you’d like something a little more fancy, the shoes are also available in green and nude.
The comfort of the block heel combined with the trendy pointy toe may make this Marc Fisher Zala shoe a weekly staple. Available in an assortment of bright spring colors and metallics, they’re exciting enough to dress up the plainest pantsuit. The heel is only a little over 2 inches, and the leather exterior means it should last long after the season ends. Available in more than a dozen colors, including red, yellow, and gold.
Even if you prefer sneakers to heels, the platform trend can still be yours. Take these funky kicks from Lucky Step, for example. Their super thick sole provides all the cushioning feet can ask for, plus they’re made with lightweight material to keep you feeling like you’re walking on air. The platforms are only 2 inches high, so there won’t be much strain on your legs, and they’re available in a myriad of colors, including reflective, and some even have additional arch support. These look sensational with leggings or a pair of high-end sweats. More than 3,000 happy customers on Amazon give them 5 stars.
Promising review: “I wore all day at a zoo in Atlanta, and my feet were not sore at the end. Highly recommend for days of long walking.”
Ditch the flip flops for something a little more refined. The Reef Cushion Vista Hi is our suggestion. Its rebound footbed is practically spongy, cupping the heel and offering arch support like you wouldn’t believe. The slide-on shoe is made of vegan leather and has a cork footbed to absorb shock as you run errands throughout the day. Available in 13 different colors, they look surprisingly amazing with a maxi-skirt, as well as jeans or shorts. And they’re under $100, which makes us think that grabbing an extra pair is worth considering.
We love this take on the Mary Jane. The chunky block heel and low platform both feel great on the feet, and the footbed is lightly padded for additional cushion. The patent leather finish is so glossy, you’ll practically need shades when glancing at them, and the straps are adjustable. Wear with jeans, slacks, or create a ’90s throwback outfit by pairing with stockings, a flouncy skirt and blazer — Clueless style.
Of all the spring shoe trends for 2023, the clear motif is my least favorite. However, if it pique your fancy, I suggest these convertible pumps from Anne Klein. Instead of cellophane clear they feature a shimmery irredentist exterior, and have a cute kitten heel that’s a cinch to walk in. These would work great for a wedding or any event you’d like to show off your recent pedicure at.
The names of these wedges from Skechers say it all — arch support, and lots of it. The arch fit footbed cradles the foot, and the stretchy top provides flexibility as you move. Another selling point? The rubber sole, which makes the sandal feel like a favorite pair of sneakers, plus the rounded front gives toes some breathing room.
Promising review: “These are the best shoes for my horrible feet. I can no longer walk barefoot without extreme pain, so I get up, put these on and am good all day. The elastic crisscross strap hugs my feet, so I also feel secure.”
Springtime can be hard as far as footwear goes. Some days are warm and perfect for open toe shoes. Other days are chilly, calling for extra coverage. The Evelyn Open Toe Sandal offers a little of both. The leather bootie gives just a taste of your piggies and heel, plus the cushioned footbed supports the arch. The stack heel isn’t too high — only 2.5 inches — and it’s dressy enough for work or a date. Available in black glove, bronze metallic sheepskin, new blush glove. and two other colors, shoes from Johnston & Murphy are exceptionally made, so feel confident slipping this style on.
If sky high heels are in your fashion rearview, try these affordable and saucy kitten heels. They’re available in 19 gorgeous colors, and have more than 9,000 fans on Amazon. Feminine, stylish, and super comfortable are just a few of the adjectives used to describe this trendy shoe, and we’re betting you’ll agree. They have a latex padded sole, so no need for gel inserts, and the strap makes them a tad sexy.
Promising review: “I’m a plus size lady, I don’t do the super high heels anymore due to them hurting my feet. I wore [these] for the first time last night and let me tell you — super comfortable and stylish! I felt like galavanting through the parking lot! I also have wide feet, and these fit perfect.”
Another spring shoe trend for 2023 is texture, and you have lots of options if you go with this pair from LifeStride. Checkered, glossy, metallic, plaid — and each have a soft comfort footbed to pamper your soles. With more than 12,000 reviews on Amazon and a 4.3 out of 5 star rating, happy customers love the arch support, as well as the cut out design of the zip-up kitten heel.
Promising review: “I walk a moderate amount at work and these have remained relatively comfy. My feet start to hurt very slightly at the end of the day. I do have wide feet and they fit me perfectly! I wanna order them in every color. I love how they look on my feet.”
