Here’s How to Get Cash Back for Your Walmart and Target Receipts
Everyone knows you go to Walmart for the deals, but wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to get just a little extra reward for our weekly hauls? As it turns out, there is—and all you need is a phone!
According to Delish, holding onto your Walmart and Target receipts may be the key to getting cash back for shopping. How so? Well, there are a variety of apps for your phone that offer cash-back rewards for users who scan the barcode of their receipt using the app. In addition to Walmart and Target, the apps are compatible with receipts from stores like Aldi, Food Lion, and Rite Aid.
Kyle James, the founder of the blog Rather Be Shopping, recommends a program called Ibotta. The Ibotta app works in the manner mentioned above; all you need to do is scan the barcode on the receipt and if cash-back rebates are available on your purchases, the money will be credited directly to your Ibotta account.
“The cool thing about Ibotta is you get money back on generic stuff like milk, eggs, bananas,” James told ABC15 in Arizona. “It’s not just name-brand stuff that you might not be buying.”

If you’re a big online shopper and you also want to cash in, quite literally, there are programs in which you can enroll, said James. His recommendation is something called Yaarlo, which offers buyers 5 to 10 percent back for shopping online, scanning receipts, and, get this, buying gift cards! Participating retailers include Walmart, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Target, and more.
If you’re a one-stop shopper, certain stores will have their own price-matching apps. Walmart’s app, called Saving Catcher, will credit your account if you buy a product that’s cheaper at another store.
One last trick that doesn’t require your phone at all is simply taking the survey at the bottom of your receipt. Oftentimes, restaurants and stores will offer free or discounted products.
As if we really needed another incentive to go shopping! We’ll have to remember this the next time we visit the stores.
