6 Colorblock Outfits That’ll Add the Perfect Pop to Your Wardrobe
With spring right around the corner, you’ve likely found yourself in the early stages of spring cleaning. Whether it means clearing out your closet of your bulkier, winter clothes or putting together a donations bag, spring is the perfect time to reassess what is in your closet. But this doesn’t just mean clearing out the things you don’t want or need, it’s also the perfect time for taking stock of what you have and what you’d like to add. If you’re looking to add some fun pops of color to your wardrobe this spring, we suggest going bold with some fun color-blocking outfits!
What is color blocking?
Color-blocking is when you use “blocks of color” to create an outfit. In most cases, this means putting aside beloved prints and patterns in favor for pieces featuring solid colors. Now that you know what color-blocking is, you’re likely wondering how to color-block. While the most classic example of color-blocking involves a black and white color scheme, most choose to adopt the trend with bold and vivid colors for a fun, bright look. Here are three ways to color-block:
Pick contrasting pieces. This is the most popular option. For a bright, bold look, opt for colors that you may not usually wear together, but actually look great as a set. Think an orange top with purple bottoms.
Go monochromatic. For a safer look, go with a monochromatic color scheme. To do this, choose a color and then pieces that feature different variants of that color. Think a light yellow top with a canary yellow skirt.
When it doubt, pull you color families out. If you took an art class as a child, you’ll remember learning about color theory and the color wheel. You’ll also remember learning there were two distinct color families: warm colors (red, orange, and yellow) and cool colors (green, blue, and purple). For a fun look that’s still not as extreme as contrasting colors but bolder than a monochromatic look, go with this color scheme. Think an emerald green top with a pair of bright, cobalt slacks.
