Is Dollar Tree Raising Prices? Everything You Need to Know about Pricing at the Discount Store in 2026

Find out how Dollar Tree prices have increased over the years and whether the upward trend will continue

Dollar stores—particularly Dollar Tree—have long been a place where you can shop and know you won’t experience sticker shock. With prices at only $1 per item, you knew you’d be getting a good deal, no matter what. But over the past few years, Dollar Tree has started to change some of their prices, with items getting a little more expensive. Find out why you might be seeing products with heftier price tags and how your dollar store experience may be changing going forward.

Items are no longer $1

It’s been a long time since every item at Dollar Tree was $1 or less. In 2021, the store’s base price changed from $1 to $1.25, due to inflation and rising costs everywhere. While this 25-cent increase wasn’t a major change, it was only the beginning of rising costs at Dollar Tree—and a trend that has since continued.

At the time, Dollar Tree said in a statement, “[Customers] have also indicated they are seeing price increases across the market and that Dollar Tree is still providing the products they need at an undeniable value.” Chief Executive Michael Witynski added, “Lifting the one-dollar constraint represents a monumental step for our organization and we are enthusiastic about the opportunity to meaningfully improve our shoppers’ experience and unlock value for our stakeholders.”

In 2024, the store quietly added some items for $1.50, not changing the chain’s base price but weaving in a few more expensive products. At this same time, the store raised its price cap to $7 for their “Plus” items. These products were in a special section of the store, where customers could find a wider variety of higher-quality goods. There has since been the addition of some items for $1.75 and you can find products for an even higher price.

You might never think you would find products over $2 at the dollar store, let alone items for $10! Despite the price cap increasing to $7 in 2024, a few things have snuck in at an even higher price.

Oftentimes, the products priced higher are seasonal and holiday-themed, such as the current Valentine’s Day stock. Right now, the candy-scented plush animals are being sold for $10. Other holiday products are priced at around $6 each, like the Valentine’s Day light-up house decor and the heart garland decor.

There have also been reports of items reaching $13 at certain Dollar Tree stores, with one Redditor sharing a photo of Downy Ultra Soft near a $13 price sign.

There is no confirmation that prices will continue on this upward trend this year but it seems likely as they have continually gone up over the past few years. The bottom line? You’ll still find hundreds of everyday essentials at Dollar Tree—from paper products to seasonal items—all of which are mostly still below the $2 mark. But be on the lookout for items with a higher price tag so you can shop smart.
