Generally speaking, a seat should be 16 to 21 inches from the floor to make it easy for anyone (especially those over 50 years of age) to sit down and stand up from. How to clean patio furniture

“There are many ways to clean outdoor furniture,” Todd Proctor, Sales and Service Manager with Christy Sports tells Woman’s World. “In general, most types of metal furniture frames can be cleaned with a bucket of warm soapy water and a cloth or sponge.”

Dishwashing liquid like Dawn or Ivory will do the trick in most cases. “Once you have cleaned the frames with soapy water, rinse them with clean water, and dry with a towel to prevent water spotting,” Proctor says. “If needed, you can add a metal protectant to the frames to provide extra shine. We recommend using a non-hazing car wax or a product called Rejuvenate.”

When cleaning your patio furniture, don’t forget about the cushions! “To start, use a vacuum to remove the surface dirt and dust from the fabric,” Proctor recommends. This helps prevent dirt from penetrating the cushions when you apply any cleanser.

“Most outdoor fabrics can be cleaned with a warm soapy water solution,” he says. “Adding Oxi clean to the mix will also help brighten the fabric and remove stains.” Avoid using a stiff brush when cleaning the fabric, as this can cause pilling or permanent damage to the fabric. Instead, Proctor says to use a soft bristle brush, sponge, or rag.

If stains are present on your outdoor furniture, pre-treat them with a spot remover before cleaning. “We recommend using Woolite or Resolve fabric cleaner,” Proctor says, adding: “In all cases, it is always best to test a small area on the fabric for color fastness before using a spot remover on a larger scale.“

Once your stains are removed and the cushions are washed, rinse them with clean water and stand them up to dry. “This will help prevent water lines from forming on the edges of the cushions as they dry,” Proctor explains.

Avoid pressure washing wood. Instead, use the same soapy water solution to get wooden outdoor furniture clean. “This is where you will want to use a brush to clean,” Proctor explains. “Brush with the grain of the wood to help remove dirt and debris. If the wood has weathered to gray, this oxidation can be removed with wood cleaners. If there are rough spots on the wood or raised spots that feel like they may snag on clothing, use some fine sandpaper to smooth out these spots.”

To further protect your wood patio furniture, apply a wood sealer like Penofin. “They offer many colors or protectants available to suit the needs of your specific wood type,” Proctor says.

“Synthetic wicker furniture should also be cleaned with soapy water and a brush,” adds Proctor. “Personally, I vacuum the wicker with the brush attachment and have had good results.”

Another hot tip for cleaning wicker patio furniture: turn it upside down! “[This will] evict spiders/bugs that may have made themselves a new home over the winter months,” Proctor explains.

I’m only 5’4′ but high back is very comfortable and he is 6ft.
