Hyundai Cars Now on Amazon: The Process Is Easy + You Can Trade In Your Old Vehicle Too!

From browsing to pick up, Amazon makes buying a Hyundai car easier than ever—here’s what to know

Comments

People looking to buy a new car can avoid the hassle of heading to a dealership thanks to Amazon. The global e-commerce giant announced that customers interested in a new Hyundai vehicle can now do so through the Amazon Autos program. They will have the ability to browse, order and even secure financing through Amazon.

Since cars will be purchased through the online shopping retailer, there will be extra features that would not otherwise be available through an in-person experience. These include reviews for both the vehicle and the seller/dealership, so potential buyers can do their due diligence. Naturally, the checkout process will also be easier!

What to know about Amazon Autos

With the program being so new, there are some limitations. For example, Amazon said it’s only starting with new Hyundai vehicles, so anyone looking to buy a used car will have to go another route.

And while Hyundai is the only brand that will be included at this time, the company says it “will expand to include additional automotive brands next year, increasing the selection of vehicles available to customers.”

Unfortunately, the exciting new feature is not available everywhere yet since customers have to pick up their new vehicles from select dealerships.

Here are the cities in the 48 states where Amazon Autos is available:

Interested in buying a new Hyundai through Amazon Autos? First visit amazon.com/autos, or search “Amazon Autos” on Amazon.com or through the mobile app. You’ll then have the ability to search through all available vehicles from your nearest participating dealership, narrowing down by feature, trim, color, model and other characteristics.

After you select your vehicle, you can secure financing if needed. Next, you will sign the digital paperwork and complete the payment information.

Then it’s time for the fun part! Once you’ve chosen a day and time, you can pick up your new ride from the local dealership and hit the road.

Trade-ins are also possible through the Amazon Autos program. Customers must first answer questions about their current vehicle’s condition. “The value, which is provided by an independent third-party, can then be applied toward the purchase price of their new car through Amazon Autos—streamlining the upgrade process within the familiar Amazon shopping experience,” shares Amazon. “At the dealership, customers complete the process by dropping off their trade-in when picking up their new vehicle.”

Tips for online car shopping

If you’re interested in a different brand of vehicle or need a used car, there are other ways to buy a car online. Websites like Carvana and Cars.com are popular alternatives. However, purchasing a vehicle online does come with some risks, so there are a handful of things to keep in mind when doing so:

  • Do your research. Compare the car listing to current market prices for comparable vehicles and ensure you’re getting a fair price. It’s also a good idea to get the vehicle identification number (VIN) and get a vehicle history report from a website like CARFAX, suggests Driveway.com.
  • Take a pre-purchase test drive. This is particularly helpful if you’re undecided on a certain model. NerdWallet.com recommends finding a similar car at a dealership to test drive, rent a car for a trial or borrow a friend’s car if they have what you’re looking to buy for yourself.
  • Verify the seller. If you’re working with an online dealership, it’s important to check reviews and ask about things like warranty, money-back guarantees, inspections and test drives. You will also want to know about the process of getting your vehicle (pick-up versus delivery) and how the paperwork system runs.

For a private seller, get their full name, and ask to see their driver’s license, the car’s registration and title and confirm all of that information matches the vehicle’s documents. “That way you’ll know they are who they say they are, that they own the car, and that they’re legally able to sell,” writes Driveway.com

  • See the vehicle in person.  As long as you are physically able, it’s recommended to take a closer look at the car before you sign any paperwork to ensure you’re getting exactly what you’re paying for. “You can call the dealership and ask a salesperson to take pictures of the vehicle for you, but you should always go for a test drive and mechanic inspection before buying,” suggest the experts at BankRate.com.

While this doesn’t appear to be possible for the new Hyundai vehicles, the Amazon Autos website does mention a three-day worry free exchange as part of the “Hyundai Shopper Assurance.” It states that exchange policies are only available at participating dealers, however. The vehicle is also not eligible if returned more than three days after purchase, has more than 300 miles or has been damaged while in your possession.
