Comments

The air fryer has become a staple in kitchens around the world, offering a faster and healthier alternative to traditional frying. But while these gadgets are popular for their convenience, recent recalls affecting over 3 million air fryers have left some consumers worried. Read on to see which air fryer brands have been recalled and find out if yours is among them.

Which air fryers have been recalled?

Since 2022, over 3 million air fryers from brands like Insignia, Magic Chef, Cosori, Secura and Empower Brands have been recalled due to potential safety issues. The latest recall was for Insignia air fryers in March, affecting over 180,000 units. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, these models posed fire, burn and laceration risks due to overheating components and melting handles.

Why are air fryers being recalled?

The most common issues leading to recalls include overheating, which can cause plastic handles to melt, glass doors to shatter or internal wiring to overheat and malfunction. In some cases, units even caught fire. Insignia air fryers, for example, were recalled after reports of fire hazards and six instances where units reportedly caught fire.

Should you still use your air fryer?

Though these recalls are of course alarming, they’re not to say that you should discontinue use of your air fryer whatsoever. Air fryers continue to be an effective way of cooking and preparing food, as well as a much healthier alternative to deep frying food in oil to achieve the crunchy crisp we all love. To avoid any dangerous outcomes when operating your air fryer, it’s important to stick to the manufacturer’s instructions. Additionally, it’s wise to keep an eye on your air fryer periodically while it’s in use and be sure to leave enough room in the basket to ensure that proper air circulation can take place. When not in use, be sure to unplug the air fryer from the outlet as an added safety measure.
