Although the telehealth industry is relatively new, some virtual providers have been around for many years. MDLive, for example, was founded in 2009. It offers primary and urgent care, mental health, and dermatology services, from the comfort of your home. Taking away the commute to a doctor’s office and long wait times makes taking care of yourself much easier.

MDLive is a well-respected telehealth brand

As one of the pioneers of telemedicine, it comes as no surprise that MDLive was named one of the best telemedicine providers in 2024. Its founder, healthcare and technology entrepreneur Randy Parker, wanted to find a way to connect patients with board-certified providers, pediatricians and licensed therapists online. The South Florida brand is LegitScript-certified, which means it was deemed safe and trustworthy by healthcare experts. And it was valued at more than $1 billion when it was acquired by insurance giant Cigna Ventures in 2021.

Enrolling takes 5 minutes

Enrollment for each of the services is quick. After navigating to the “What We Treat” page on MDLive’s website, you’ll pick which service you’re looking for (Urgent Care, Primary Care, Mental Health or Dermatology). You’ll make an account and fill out some personal information, including any insurance plans. Then, you’ll be able to schedule an appointment — it’s literally that easy.

Each patient has a “care team”

You can message your care team for whichever service you use by logging in to your MDLIVE account. Urgent Care is available 24/7, though, if you need immediate service. And for any administrative questions, you can message MDLive’s team, which is likely to respond quickly.

Customer service isn't easy to reach by phone

Even though you can message your provider whenever, the customer service team wasn’t easy to reach by phone. We called at different times of the day throughout the week, and were brought to a voicemail box each time. If you’re looking to have billing questions answered, doing it by phone may not be an option.
