Meghan Trainor’s Weight Loss: How Mounjaro, Protein + Strength Training Helped Her Shed 60 Lbs
Learn what the singer has said helps her feel strong, beautiful and upbeat
You likely know singer Meghan Trainor from her chart-topping hits, her TikTok account with 18.8 million followers—or from her impressive weight loss. Her breakout, body-positive song All About That Bass put her on the map in 2014, it’s back in the spotlight again after the Grammy Award-winner swapped lyrics to address her new figure.
Here we break down Trainor’s health journey—including how she lost more than 60 pounds with the help of Mounjaro—her surgery and why the impromptu lyrics change sparked a body image debate on social media.
Meghan Trainor addresses her surgery and weight loss in lyrics
All About That Bass, which famously celebrated plus-size bodies, includes the line, “Yeah it’s pretty clear, I ain’t no size two.” But when Trainor took the stage to perform at the iHeartRadio KIIS-FM Wango Tango Concert on May 10, she swapped the lyric for, “Yeah it’s pretty clear, I got some new boobs.”
While the audience may not have expected the lyric change, Trainor’s decision to undergo a breast augmentation wasn’t something she kept secret. In fact, during an episode of her podcast Workin’ On It, released on November 20, 2024, she revealed that the procedure had been a longtime goal.
“I’ve always joked and said for years, like, ‘I can’t wait till I can get a boob job,’” Trainor said. “It might be new for all of our listeners, but I have wanted this my whole life, so I’m going to have boobies that don’t look at the floor.”
Like many moms, Trainor experienced changes in her body after giving birth—as well as after her dramatic weight loss—and shared that was part of the reason she decided to go through with the procedure. She also explained that as a performer, her body image affects how she feels in her stage outfits.
Trainor told People she’s thrilled with the results, and that the surgery gave her a confidence boost. “I feel so girly and I love it, and it makes me so much more confident and it’s like the best decision I ever made,” she said. “I smile every time I shower.”
The change sparked mixed reactions
While some users were quick to point out “She’s NOT all about that bass anymore”, others defended the singer on social media for doing what makes her feel her best. The subject is a sensitive one, as some fans felt like it was a shift from the song’s original message about body positivity—especially after her significant weight loss.
Meghan Trainor’s weight loss: How she shed 60 lbs
Here’s how Trainor lost 60 pounds since having her two children:
She practices strength training
Last year, Trainor told former Today host Hoda Kotb that she doesn’t work out every day, but tries to hit the gym three times a week to lift weights, Healthline reported. “I didn’t know lifting weights would change my life so much,” Trainor said of her weight loss journey.
She added that she used to try to run on the treadmill, but found that it was excessively taxing and “made [her] swollen.” “I just saw I can be stronger, you know?” she said of finding weight training.
In a separate interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada, Trainor revealed that she lost 60 pounds after having her first child. “I was my heaviest I’d ever been,” said Trainor. “I just wasn’t feeling great…I was in a really dark place, and I wanted to be in a great place for my son.”
“I did the healthy way, the long way, the one-pound-a-week way,” Trainor told People in 2023. “And it’s a proud accomplishment I never thought I could ever do.”
She later turned to Mounjaro for help
In a March 2024 Instagram post, Trainor revealed that she’s been using the weight-loss drug Mounjaro to help keep the pounds off after the birth of her second child.
“No, I don’t look like I did 10 years ago,” she shared in the post. “I’ve been on a journey to be the healthiest, strongest version of myself for my kids and for me. I’ve worked with a dietician, made huge lifestyle changes, started exercising with a trainer, and yes, I used science and support (shoutout to Mounjaro!) to help me after my 2nd pregnancy. And I’m so glad I did because I feel great.”
She changed her mindset
What also helped Trainor on her weight-loss journey? Getting at least seven to eight hours of sleep each night and changing her mindset to focus on the positive. She credited her husband, Daryl Sabara, with constantly reminding her that she’s strong and healthy.
“Body image is always there, but I’m learning to rewire my brain,” she told People. “Everyone’s body’s so different. Numbers are just numbers. Whatever [weight] makes you feel the healthiest is where you should live.”
She focuses on protein
In January, Trainor told Women’s Health that she now strives to eat 100 grams of protein a day to maintain her weight loss and support her strength training efforts. The singer said she’ll typically have two eggs and organic turkey bacon for breakfast, while she relies on meal delivery services for lunch and dinner options that are packed with protein.
“I wish I knew how to cook. I make bland stuff,” she told Women’s Health. “But my husband is a nerd about finding food delivery companies that give you protein and help you out with a journey like that. So we’re always looking for a new one.”
