As part of its mission to revive and celebrate classic television’s Western legacy, the WEST Channel dedicates part of its Saturday evenings to Cheyenne, the groundbreaking ABC Western series that ran from 1955 to 1962. Starring Clint Walker as the towering and soft-spoken Cheyenne Bodie, the show followed a drifting post–Civil War scout who roamed the frontier dispensing justice and living by a strict personal code. Cheyenne was the first hour-long Western to survive beyond a single season, paving the way for future hits like Gunsmoke and Bonanza. Each episode was standalone (these were the days before serialization), with Bodie traveling from town to town—sometimes as a lawman, sometimes a soldier, sometimes a man simply trying to do what’s right.

8:00 PM — “The Outlander” (Season 1, Episode 5)
After being beaten and run out of a frontier town, Cheyenne returns to discover the real reason for the hostility and seeks justice against the men who wronged him. Originally aired December 13, 1955, this early episode established Bodie’s strong moral compass and determination to right injustices, no matter the personal cost.

9:00 PM — “The Travelers” (Season 1, Episode 6)
When Cheyenne intervenes to stop a lynching, his actions place him in the middle of a violent struggle between rival factions. The episode explores prejudice and the moral consequences of standing up for what’s right when the crowd turns against you.

A Look Ahead: Saturday, October 25

8:00 PM — “Decision” (also known as “The Black Hawk War”) (Season 1, Episode 7)
Assigned as a government scout, Cheyenne warns settlers and soldiers at Fort Wilderness of an imminent Native American attack. With lives on the line, he leads them through perilous country to safety, showcasing the heroism and leadership that became the series’ hallmark.

9:00 PM — “The Storm Riders” (Season 1, Episode 8)
Cheyenne drives a herd of ponies across what should be open range, only to be blocked by a wealthy cattleman who hires a killer to stop him. The confrontation that follows highlights Bodie’s grit and honor against greed and corruption—qualities that made Clint Walker’s portrayal one of television’s most enduring Western heroes.
