Every year we see plenty of black cats trick or treating, but our version is super-easy and affordable! Just pick up this  $8 Halloween Women’s Costume Kit from Dollar General, which comes with a cat-ear headband, bow tie and tail. Simply dress in black, then draw some whiskers on your face with eyeliner (also available at Dollar General), style the accessories how you wish, and you’re all set!

Your birthday suit

No, we aren’t talking about that birthday suit. Instead, go buy a party hat from Dollar General and then wear it with a suit from your closet. It’s clever, fresh and guaranteed to make everyone laugh.

A ghost

It’s a classic for a good reason: Going as a ghost may be the easiest costume ever. And if you don’t want to cut one of your sheets, check out the sheet options at Dollar General. They come in all sizes, including a twin. But to make it into a comfortable costume, you may want to pick up a queen size and cut out two holes for eyes. To go the extra mile, use a black marker to draw eyes around the holes, then get ready to haunt!

In addition to human costumes, Dollar General makes it easy for pets to get in on the festivities as well, and with this $3 Halloween Novelty Pet Tee they can do just that! Our favorite is the black “I ate my costume” tee—it just seems perfect for those four-legged friends—but there are others that work as well. Don’t forget the treats! We know our dogs love them!

Dollar Tree halloween costumes

Dollar Tree sells a variety of Halloween-themed accessories, like socks, tiaras and headbands, but to make a truly clever costume, step out of the Halloween aisle and into the food aisle! Here, our favorite ideas for clever costumes using Dollar Tree items:

A cereal killer

Everyone loves a good pun, and this cereal killer costume is perfect for that. Just buy a box of your favorite cereal at Dollar Tree and carry it around all night with a knife (we recommend using a fake one—many Dollar Tree stores sell toy knives that glow in the dark!).

Smarty Pants

This clever costume comes straight from Facebook favorite Liz Luda. Simply pick up a bag (or 2!) of Smarties candies and tape the individual rolls all over your pants. Now that’s genius!

Sugar Mama

Another clever idea from Luda that couldn’t be easier. All you have to do is buy a box of sugar from Dollar Tree, wrap it in a blanket and carry it around like a baby—voila! You’re a “sugar mama.”

Chip on your shoulder

Head into a costume store and you can pay $20 or more for a “chip on shoulder” costume complete with a giant fake potato chip you can apply to your shoulder. But why would you, when you can DIY it for pennies? Simply pick up a bag of potato chips at Dollar Tree and tape it to your shoulder. So easy!
