Flared Heels are the Latest “It” Shoe Trend—Here’s Why You Should Give Them a Try
Not only are they stylish, but they may be more sturdy, too
In a world of stilettos, kitten heels and pumps, there’s no shortage of stylish heel options out there to choose from. But recently there’s a new heel style that’s been trending, and we think you may want to make room in your closet for a pair: flared heels. Just like your favorite pair of flared jeans, this shoe style may just become a staple in your wardrobe that you can turn to to complete just about any outfit. Here, we explain exactly what flared heels are, how to style them and a few of our favorite pairs to try.
What are flared heels?
You may have heard of flared pants (not sure about you, but we’re so happy they’re back), but you may not be super familiar with the term “flared heels.” However, we bet you’ve probably seen them before, maybe even tried a pair on, and just didn’t realize their name.
The heel of this shoe is similar to that of a flared jean: it’s slimmer toward the top and then gradually expands out toward the bottom. This style has become increasingly popular, and the great part is that flared-heel shoes can work on short and tall heel heights.
The benefits of flared heels
As mentioned above, a huge bonus of flared heels is that they work on just about all heel heights. Prefer a shorter, kitten heel style? You can find a pair of kitten heels with a flared heel. And if you’d rather wear a taller pair of pumps, flared pumps work great!
Even more, we like flared heels because they offer a bit more stability than the standard pair of heels—especially those that have a skinny heel. Having that “flared” end means more width at the bottom, and therefore, more support. Skinnier heels don’t have that advantage and can be hard to walk in.
Further, flared heels can add that extra bit of pizzazz to your outfit that you may be missing. Just the simple detail of a flared heel can completely make your outfit.
How to style flared heels
There are many different ways to style flared heels and the best part is that they work for dressy and casual outfits alike. They’re very versatile and work for a wide range of occasions.
A simple way to wear flared heels is by pairing them with your favorite pair of jeans. Want to do flare on flare? Go for it! Flare jeans with these heels is super chic and helps dress up the jeans a bit. But they also look great with skinny jeans, wide-leg jeans, straight-leg styles and just about everything in between. I love wearing heels with jeans to give my outfit a more polished, elevated look.
Going for something a little dressier? Flared heels look gorgeous with a cocktail dress or even black tie attire. With dressy occasions, you may be on your feet more, so choosing a flared heel, which is supportive and sturdy, may make you more comfortable throughout the night.
As far as specific flared heels that we have our eye on, there are quite a few pairs we love. For starters, you can’t go wrong with a nude pair of flared heels. We love Sam Edelman Antonia Pump, a classic, suede nude heel that goes with so many different looks. For a flared kitten heel, we love Aerosoles Point Toe Two Piece Statement Heel as well as their Point Toe Statement Heel, both of which are super comfortable and ultra-chic. For a pop of color, look no further than Circus NY by Sam Edelman Tara High-Vamp Pointed-Toe Pumps, which comes in a gorgeous, satin red.
