Fall wardrobe essentials
While we fully support treating yourself to a whole new wardrobe for fall, you don’t have/need to. Instead, you can opt for reliable staples and versatile items you can create multiple different outfits out of. Here, the fall wardrobe essentials to keep in mind for this season.
Fall wardrobe essential: Basics
You can never go wrong with a good basic. When curating a new wardrobe as the seasons change, it’s a great time to stock up on those staple pieces you know you’ll grab out of your closet over and over again. This includes solid, neutral T-shirts, button downs, a few different styles of jeans, a couple sweaters and/or cardigans and perhaps a neutral skirt or dress. These are all considered basics, and are great layering pieces and can be worn with many different outfits.
Fall wardrobe essential: Neutrals
Fall is all about the neutrals. As the leaves start to change, we tend to see more brown, tan, creamy white and black when it comes to fashion. We also see the rise of darker colors, like burgundy, burnt orange, reds, olive green and mustard. Because these colors are more muted and on the deeper/darker side, they almost can be considered a neutral, aka you can wear them with many different colors and hues.
What is Loft’s fall collection like?
If we could only describe Loft’s fall collection in three words, it would be Parisian, versatile and cozy. It combines a French woman fashion aesthetic with comfort, meaning it looks effortlessly chic while still feeling like you could wear it all day and night. Loft stuck to their “from desk to dinner” aesthetic with their fall collection, making it easy to wear their pieces into the office as well as outside the office. The styles are appropriate and modest, but don’t look matronly. All of the pieces are on trend and stylish, and work for a wide variety of ages from young professionals to women in their 50s and 60s.

Leopard Print Smocked Waist Maxi Dress
Although we don’t think it’s ever fully gone out of style, we’re happy to report animal print is one of the biggest fall trends of 2024. So of course, we had to include this Loft Leopard Print Smocked Waist Maxi Dress. What we love about this dress, aside from the chic leopard print pattern, is the stretchy smocked waist. It defines your shape without feeling too structured or rigid, thanks to its elastic stretch band around the middle.
Bow Collarless Denim Jacket in Refined Mid Indigo Wash
This isn’t any regular jean jacket; Loft Bow Collarless Denim Jacket puts an adorable twist on fall’s favorite jacket with a tie bow denim strap. Since it doesn’t have a collar, the tie bow won’t overwhelm the neck or jacket. And it adds not only a nice layer of warmth for chilly fall days or night but also gives any look some feminine flair.
Shoulder Button Cable Sweater Vest
A sweater vest is a great staple for fall since it can work for both warm and cool weather. Layer Loft Shoulder Button Cable Sweater Vest over a white button down or long sleeve T-shirt for chillier days or wear it on its own for warmer days. We love the unique neckline of this one in particular along with its gold button detailing.
Satin Cowl Neck Shell
We’re all for tops that can be worn to the office as well as out to dinner, and that’s exactly what Loft Satin Cowl Neck Shell is. It comes in the most beautiful chocolate brown color, which we predict will be huge this fall, and its satin look and feel will be comfortable and breathable to wear all day. Pair it under a blazer for work and wear it alone with heels for dinner.
Sequin End On End Cotton Relaxed Shirt
Take a button down, but make it elevated. Loft Sequin End On End Cotton Relaxed Shirt adds a bit of sparkly pizzazz to the typical button down with chic clear sequins on the front. We love the two-toned design with the blue shirt and white collar and cuffs. Pair it with jeans, a skirt or a pair of trousers — it’s super versatile too!
Shearling Mixed Media Coat
Don’t worry: it’s not quite time to bring out those heavy winter coats. However, you may need a light jacket for fall, and Loft Shearling Mixed Media Coat fits the bill. It will keep you warm without feeling heavy, and features the most chic quilt-like design. Best of all, It hits just above the knee, making it the perfect length for a fall jacket.
Horsebit High Rise Slim Flare Jeans in Classic Rinse Wash
Take it from ust: Flare jeans will be the biggest jean trend of fall — and we’re not the only ones who think so. Loft Horsebit High Rise Slim Flare Jeans is another piece from Loft’s fall collection that can be worn to the office or outside of work. The dark wash hue makes these jeans look more dressy and work-appropriate, and we’re obsessed with the chic gold horsebit detailing on the pockets.
Peyton Trouser Pants in Plaid
You can’t go wrong with a pair of plaid dress pants for fall. Nothing screams the season quite like plaid, and with Loft Peyton Trouser Pants’ plaid pattern being neutral, it’s easy to pair it with many different tops. Keep it simple with a creamy white blouse or add some color with a burgundy or navy tee.
Corduroy Front Slit Midi Skirt
The fabric of fall has to be corduroy (at least according to us it is). And the warm and cozy material will make you look forward to putting on Loft Corduroy Front Slit Midi Skirt. It comes in the most beautiful burnt orange color, and has a front slit for easy breezy movement.
Tweed Mini Flare Pocket Dress
You deserve a new dress for your fall wardrobe, and Loft Tweed Mini Flare Pocket Dress is hard to beat. Its fit-and-flare style is oh-so flattering, and can easily be dressed up with heels or down with flats and a cardigan. Plus, we appreciate that it has short sleeves so you won’t get too hot despite the thicker tweed material.
Lou & Grey Wanderweave Wide Leg Trousers
Believe it or not, these Lou & Grey Wanderweave Wide Leg Trousers feel like you’re wearing sweatpants — but look like dress pants. Lou & Grey is Loft’s loungewear and athletic line, and these pants from the line really do feel like loungewear. We love the subtle front pleats that elevate them just a notch.
Stripe Poplin Layered Mixed Media Sweatshirt
This piece combines two of our favorite staples in one: a button down and sweater. Loft Stripe Poplin Layered Mixed Media Sweatshirt looks like two pieces layered together, but is just one easy-to-throw on top. This means it won’t feel as heavy as it would if you layered a separate button down and sweater together. And the navy shade gives off a modern preppy-chic look.
