Asking Simple Questions for Profound Results – Life Coach Kathy McCabe Reframes Perspectives to Drive Meaningful Change
When faced with difficult circumstances, people often find it easier to lend an empathetic ear to friends and family than to offer themselves the same due consideration. As Kathy McCabe puts it: “We should speak to ourselves the same way we speak to the people we care about. Sometimes, the most profound wisdom is the simplest.”
A Master Certified Coach and self-care advocate, Kathy reminds individuals of the power of their thoughts and how they shape their perceptions of reality. “The placebo effect works for a reason,” she says, “and our minds hold the power to heal and transform.”
With an academic background in law, Kathy practiced as an attorney for over two decades, working in the city of Chicago. Throughout her prosperous career, she experienced periods of burnout, confusion, and discontent – leading her to neglect self-care and turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms instead. Her life began to take a more positive turn when she mastered the ability to ask herself the right questions. These questions helped her shift from a ‘victim mindset’ to one driven by purpose and accountability.
She continues: “The truth is, I could have quit. I could have figured out other ways to deal with my burnout. Yet, when I recognized my own choice in the matter, it took away the complaining and enabled me to approach the situation in a far more proactive way. I asked myself: If I choose to be here right now, how can I make my work life more fulfilling? How can I make both my work and life more fun? How can I take exceptional care of myself?”
By simply asking herself the right questions at the right time, she experienced a pivotal shift in mindset and therefore, her outcomes. Not only was she promoted at her job but she felt happier at work. Kathy’s career in litigation regularly required formulating arguments based on the past, but now, she felt ready to focus on the future.

After leaving her profession, she applied the tools she was beginning to cultivate and started running women’s groups with others seeking creativity and purpose. She adds: “Within a year, all the women began reclaiming meaning in life – some embarked on new careers and some opened new businesses. Some put their past in the past, getting divorced. Some of them became happier and more mindful parents. Some simply found new passions or reinvigorated old ones. As a collective, we all adopted a more mindful and happier outlook, transforming our everyday interactions with the world while creating a supportive community of like-minded people–a truly powerful experience.”
When a friend dropped off an article to her home, detailing the story of a well-known author and life coach, Kathy felt compelled to follow that same path–a path towards helping others through coaching. She began exploring the study of mindfulness, thought-work, intuition, wellness, and mind-body awareness. Throughout this journey, Kathy learned about helping herself as much as she learned about helping others, practicing introspection, and becoming increasingly self-aware.
“The process was deeply beneficial for my own growth as well as those around me,” says Kathy, “Time and again, coaching has guided me toward a more authentic, joy-filled version of myself. I found there to be great power in putting my own happiness and well-being first, no matter what I have going on. Like a domino effect, I noticed how this infectious mindset made those around me feel just as uplifted.”
Today, as a Life & Executive Coach, Kathy helps clients create lifestyles they truly love, despite life’s inevitable challenges. She regularly hosts group coaching sessions and retreats, utilizing a variety of transformational tools.
One review reads: “Kathy’s depth of coaching experience and background as a highly motivated, successful attorney keeps you laser-focused on practical solutions. Now, I’m a better mom, physician, and leader.”

Are we telling ourselves stories that serve us or make us feel worse? By asking simple questions like these and listening to our own intuition, profound results will follow.”
