BobiHealth: Redefining Pregnancy Care Through Technology and Compassion
BobiHealth, the pregnancy health app co-founded by Dave Esra, Ann-Christin Villegas, and Mohit Sindhani, is transforming the way expectant parents navigate one of life’s most critical journeys. Born from a shared passion for improving maternal health, the platform offers a comprehensive solution that merges advanced technology with personalized care, making it a true one-stop shop for pregnancy management.
The journey to BobiHealth began years before the app’s inception. Esra, a former Army officer and seasoned leader in health technology, spent significant time leading organizations researching COVID-19’s impact on pregnancy and developing predictive analytics for maternal health.
“I realized early on that traditional methods of maternal health monitoring can be insufficient,” he recalls. “Data collection was slow, cumbersome, and often didn’t reach the people who needed it most.”
Through his postgraduate studies on artificial intelligence and machine learning, Esra envisioned a mobile platform capable of gathering real-time health data, analyzing it ethically, and delivering actionable insights to pregnant women.
Ann-Christin Villegas, a biotech professional and author of Becoming a Parent, brought complementary expertise to the project. Having worked in pharmaceutical research and written extensively about pregnancy, she shared Esra’s vision for an app that not only monitors health but also educates and supports users throughout their journey.
“Though we don’t diagnose, we provide extensive personalized information and recommendations so users can get the care they need. Our goal is to empower, not to replace medical care,” Villegas emphasizes.
At its core, BobiHealth combines scientific precision with intuitive design. The app tracks essential biometrics such as breathing rate, temperature, steps, hydration, and blood pressure, alongside pregnancy-specific metrics like fetal movements and contractions. “Having insights into trends in these metrics can help shed light on risks and impending preventable complications,” Lauren Harrington, MD, states.
Medication reminders, hydration tracking, and customizable dashboards ensure users have a complete view of their pregnancy in real-time. The platform also allows users to generate records of their biometrics, which can be shared with healthcare providers or caregivers, bridging the gap between digital monitoring and in-person care.
Looking ahead, BobiHealth is poised to expand its offerings significantly. In the coming weeks, the app will launch an Education Hub, featuring curated, evidence-based materials designed to guide users through key stages of pregnancy.
A postpartum and partner dashboard is also in development, enabling mothers to track newborn feeding, sleep, and development milestones alongside their own recovery, while also providing their partners with complete access to the mother and baby’s health vitals from anywhere, anytime, encouraging them to be actively involved.
“It’s about giving all parties a sense of reassurance,” Esra explains. “The partner can open their phone and know that everything is alright, or if they need to check in. It’s another way to make the mother feel taken care of.”

One of the most anticipated features, the Bobi “BFF” chatbot, will provide users with a responsive conversational companion, allowing them to ask questions in real-time as they come to mind, acting as a beacon of support for pregnant women and new mothers battling loneliness.
“Loneliness is a huge issue in pregnancy,” Esra explains. “Our chatbot model incorporates medical knowledge, with built-in guardrails to guide users to local resources when needed. The key is to support their emotional journey as much as the physical one.”
BobiHealth’s commitment to accessibility is equally rigorous. Available in multiple languages for iOS and Android, the platform even reaches communities where healthcare access is limited, from urban and rural America to remote villages in Africa, India, and the Philippines, meeting users with the cultural sensitivity required in every region.
The team collects insights for social determinants of health, including factors like transportation, health resources, and cultural barriers. BobiHealth identifies potential obstacles and can connect users with local resources like prenatal yoga classes, community clinics, and support services.
Data privacy remains a cornerstone of the app. Using a stringent and fortified machine learning architecture, BobiHealth ensures user data remains private, secure, and under the user’s control. “Our users can delete their data at any time,” Esra notes. “We take privacy seriously because health information is deeply personal, and our highest responsibility is to protect it.”
Beyond individual health, BobiHealth’s predictive analytics have broad implications for healthcare systems. Through proactively identifying risks for conditions such as gestational diabetes or preeclampsia, the app also enables early interventions that can reduce complications, hospital visits, and overall healthcare costs. This intentional model can aid in improving outcomes for mothers and babies, supporting them through valuable care systems while offering cost-effective and preventive solutions.
With a team of healthcare professionals who contribute to every aspect of the platform, BobiHealth exemplifies a blend of science and empathy. As Esra puts it, “We’re mixing art and science to create a place of comfort, guidance, and education. Our mission is simple: to make pregnancy safer, more informed, and more connected for every family, no matter where they are.”
For Esra, Villegas, and the growing BobiHealth team, the vision extends beyond an app; it is a commitment to ending preventable maternal and infant complications while empowering families with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive.
