TOP STORIES

The soap operas we’ve grown to love over the last few decades have never shied away from outlandish storylines, unbelievable plots and crazy character development. After all, how else can you keep viewers interested enough to tune in day after day? Of all the out-of-this-world tropes that make up the soaps we love, one of our favorites is the all-too-familiar “back from the dead” storyline we’ve seen time after time. No matter how often it’s done, it gets us every time! Here, take a look at some of the most iconic soap resurrections.

Laura Spencer—General Hospital

The death of Laura Spencer, played by Genie Francis on General Hospital, shook both viewers at home and her on-screen beau, Luke. Laura was arriving back in Port Charles after a modeling job took her to New York. Headed to the docks to seek out her hubby, she disappeared into the foggy night. Presumed dead, Laura would eventually return to reveal that she had been kidnapped and held in captivity by the Cassadines.

Stefano DiMera—Days of Our Lives

No one does “back from the dead” quite like Stefano DiMera does—after all, there’s a reason why his character earned the nickname of “The Phoenix.” Few soap characters have cheated death as many times as he has, but because of this, he’s gone down in soap history.

Victor Newman—The Young and the Restless

Victor Newman has never been afraid to cause a stir in Genoa City. Whether he was faking his own death or living in hiding, the Young and the Restless star keeps coming back for more.

Jesse Hubbard—All My Children

All My Children’s Jesse Hubbard was a part of another memorable soap “back-from-the-dead” storyline when he faked his death as a way of protecting his family from the criminals he was on the run from.

Lucky Spencer—General Hospital

The son of iconic soap couple Luke and Laura was believed to have perished in a fire, but in true soap fashion, he survived. But what happened to him after the fire? He was kidnapped, of course!

Sheila Carter—The Young and the Restless

No one’s messier than Sheila Carter, so it’s no surprise that she’s one of those immortal characters whose schemes are never quite through. Whether she was wreaking havoc on The Young and the Restless or The Bold and the Beautiful, Sheila is one-of-a-kind.

Frisco Jones—General Hospital

In another messy soap opera back-from-the-dead moment, Frisco Jones was presumed to be killed in an explosion, but it was his investigation into a terrorist organization that led to this event. When he ultimately returned to be with his wife, he was shocked to learn she moved on with one of the men involved in the attack against him.
