These 5 Nostalgic ’80s Instagram Accounts Will Transport You Back in Time — Follow Them Now!
Dust off your cassettes, put on some hairspray and give these fun social media accounts a follow!
Sometimes it seems like the ’80s have been back in style for even longer than the colorful decade actually lasted, and social media has been a major part of keeping the age of John Hughes movies and music videos on MTV at the forefront of the culture.
Whether you lived through the ’80s or you just wish you could’ve, there are many fabulously nostalgic accounts dedicated to the era on Instagram. From Gen Z influencers embracing ’80s fashion to loving tributes to long-closed shopping malls, here are five of our favorite retro Instagram accounts dedicated to the era.
1. For a shockingly authentic take on ’80s style: Glitterwave 80s
Violet Sky, the musician and influencer who runs @Glitterwave80s, wasn’t actually around in the ’80s, but you’d never know it from looking at her account. Violet, who describes herself as “Your modern day 80s pop singer” and a “media archivist & 80s enthusiast” is a 23-year-old who lives and breathes ’80s style. Not only does she sport a voluminous perm and vintage outfits, she also performs music using previously unheard ’80s tracks, making them the closest thing you can get to actual songs from the era in this day and age.

2. For beauty inspiration: Beauty Book 1985
Do you ever miss pastel eyeshadow and frosted lipstick? Then @BeautyBook1985 is the account for you. The handle posts a variety of photos scanned from ’80s era beauty guidebooks. From the glamorous to the cringeworthy, this feed posts images of just about every beauty trend you can think of — and some you might have forgotten.

3. For mall nostalgia: Luxury Dept Store
Anyone who spent their teen years wandering the mall will find something to love in @LuxuryDeptStore. This retro Instagram account is dedicated to posting throwback shots of malls in all their tacky, consumerist glory. On top of that, the page is run by two artists, so the images are impeccably curated. Expect a lot of faux Greek columns, indoor palm trees and of course, neon.

4. For fab ’80s furniture you can actually buy: 80s Deco Hunter
’80s furniture has made a major comeback in recent years, and these days plenty of people are willing to pay a pretty penny for pink couches and mirrored coffee tables. @80sDecoHunter is the Instagram page of a furniture shop exclusively devoted to selling furniture from the era. If you spend enough time looking at their feed, it’s highly likely you’ll end up wanting to give your home a Miami Vice-style makeover, and the account even has a furniture showroom in New Jersey, should you ever want to make your ’80s interior design dreams a reality.

5. For old school TV: 80s News Screens
Scrolling @80sNewsScreens is way more fun than watching the news in this day and age. This account, which promises “Screengrabs from slower news days” posts all kinds of shots from ’80s news stories — the quirkier the images and grainier the quality, the better. In a world of 24-hour news cycles shot in high-definition, this feed will take you back to the more innocent days of wood-paneled televisions and videotapes.
