‘The Baby-Sitters Club’ Is Becoming a Musical! What We Know So Far About the Cast and Plot
Plus, what the author has to say about the Broadway adaption
The Baby-Sitters Club on Broadway? Count us in! Yes, you read that right. The beloved book series The Baby-Sitters Club is getting a musical adaptation! The songs are being written by none other than Kpop Demon Hunters’ Mark Sonnenblick. Below, we have everything you need to know about the show, including casting updates and when it’s expected to appear on The Great White Way.
What to know about ‘The Baby-Sitters Club’ musical
Earlier this week, Deadline exclusively announced that The Baby-Sitters Club was becoming a musical. The script will be written by Kate Wetherhead, who worked on the musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada. Annie Tippe will do the choreography and Sonnenblick will create the music and lyrics.
“We look forward to bringing the BSC’s [Baby-Sitters Club] themes of friendship, growing pains, independence and self-discovery to a live audience,” Wetherhead told the outlet, “So that both young people and adults can see for themselves (or their former selves) that they are not alone in the grand adventure of ‘growing up.’”

Sonnenblick added to that, saying, “Though their triumphs and struggles and crushes are evergreen, these are girls of the ’80s and ’90s. So the score’s inspired by some of our favorites—Sheryl Crow, Indigo Girls, Shania Twain. We’re just very excited for everyone to hang out with the club in Stoneybrook, whether it’s your first time or your 500th.”
What is ‘The Baby-Sitters Club’ about?
The Baby-Sitters Club is a young adult series written by Ann M. Martin. It follows Kristy, Claudia, Mary Anne and Stacey as they open a babysitting business to earn money.
“It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost four decades since the first Baby-Sitters Club book, Kristy’s Great Idea, was published. And now a Baby-Sitters Club musical? What a great idea!” Martin said, per Playbill. “I love musicals and am excited to see the adventures of Kristy, Claudia, Mary Anne and Stacey come to life on stage. I’m humbled by the ongoing popularity of the series and couldn’t be more thrilled by this news.”

The series was originally published in 1986, and since then has sold over 190 million copies. It has been adapted for both film and TV quite a few times. The main difference with the musical? Instead of following the girls in their preteen years, the plot is expected to take place 12 years after the baby-sitters go their separate ways—until a pact they made at age 13 comes into play and soon the four girls find themselves reunited once more.
“The Baby-Sitters Club series introduced the original girl bosses, shaping and inspiring the lives of millions of young women and girls then—and still today. For adults who loved the books, it taps into a shared sense of nostalgia, inviting each of us to revisit the memories that shaped us while reflecting on how far we’ve come,” Barbara Pasternack, Producing Artistic Director at TWTheatricals, the company that optioned the show, said in a statement. “For audiences of any age, it’s an inspiring story of friendship, empowerment and finding your own voice, and a reminder that our stories are always evolving. And the score is amazing.”
‘The Baby-Sitters Club’ musical casting and release date updates
As of publication, there are no casting updates for the musical; however, fans of the series have begun posting on social media who they think should take on the roles.
Since they are planning an exclusive industry presentation for The Baby-Sitters Club in November of this year, it’s safe to assume that they already have at least some of the cast in place.
Following that review, the show is suspected to be open to the public starting in Spring 2027.
