The actress and mom says this read is her go-to form of self-care—the one book she can't stop pressing into her friends' hands
Key Takeaways
- eading books is Danielle Fishel's favorite form of self-care over TV.
- She reads for 15 to 20 minutes every night to avoid late-night phone scrolling.
- Fishel strongly recommends Glennon Doyle’s 'Untamed' to all women.
For Danielle Fishel, curling up with a good book is the ultimate form of self-care—and there’s one title she can’t stop sharing with the women in her life.
“I am a reader. It’s actually my favorite,” Fishel says. “Like the way people think of sitting down on the couch and watching something on TV is the way I feel about books.”
Her ideal version of quality me-time? Silence, a great read and a hot cup of tea or coffee. Before she had kids, Fishel used to pick up a book anytime she needed a meditative moment—even just 15 minutes to herself. These days, her reading routine looks a little different.
“Now I don’t really get many day breaks, so my go-to reading time is at night before I fall asleep,” she says. “It’s the best way to make sure I get off my phone, so that I’m not just scrolling mindlessly before I fall asleep. I read every single night for about 15 to 20 minutes until the book’s done.”
Once she starts a book, she’s all in. “I’m not a person who can put down a book once I’ve started it. So once I start it, I’m committed to the end.”
As for the title she presses into friends’ hands?
“A book I do recommend to anyone is Untamed by Glennon Doyle,” Fishel says. “I loved that book so much when I first read it, and I have recommended it to so many women, especially in my life. And I feel like it is a really great book for any woman.”
