What to know about ‘Good Morning America’ and Barnes and Noble’s October book club pick

Parker Navarro’s debut novel was supposed to be a bestseller that would change his life… until book critic Selina Chan tears it apart in a scathing review and it flops. Four years later, Parker releases another book, and when Selina fires off yet another negative review, Parker refuses to stay silent. What erupts is a very public feud that turns into something more heated than either of them could have imagined.

“We have NO bad words to say about our GMA Book Club pick for October,” Good Morning America said in their book club announcement post. “Bad Words by Rioghnach Robinson is a surprising and thoughtful story with a chemistry-filled slow burn romance.”

Robinson then commented on the post, writing “more honored and happy than I can express —thank you so much.”

As for Barnes & Noble, they picked Bad Words for their book club because, according to them, it’s a “clever story of ambition, success and sincerity.”

“[It] follows debut novelist Parker and literary critic Selina, whose feud goes viral after a scathing review,” the bookstore added. “The two form an unexpected bond as their lives intersect in this will-they-won’t-they rom-com.”

How Goodreads users feel about ‘Bad Words’ by Rioghnach Robinson

Bad Words hit shelves earlier today, but some readers were lucky enough to score an early copy. One of them described the book as “quite possibly one of the best modern romances to ever grace the bookish community.”

“It also offers such insightful social commentary that’s very relevant to the current publishing climate and our main characters are so raw and realistic. It’s about the art and importance that books possess, how it shapes us and our world and the connections we make through them as a means of understanding each other,” the reviewer added. “I felt every single word of this book deep in my bones, and am already thinking about rereading it, despite reading the last page a mere eight hours ago. It really is a one-of-a-kind read and trust me when I say you’ll feel completely changed after finishing it.”

“In my experience it is rare to place a novel in both the romance and literary fiction genres but that is where this one sits for me. It’s about so much more than an enemies to lovers storyline or a book about books,” the Goodreads user said. “There is zero fluff here. It’s a story with teeth and heart feeling rare in what it conveys. There were so many emotions that cropped while listening to the audio and the dual narrators excelled at breathing life into these flawed characters.”
