‘He’s Going to Go All the Way’: Arnold Schwarzenegger Gushes About Son Patrick’s Rise
The actor opens up about Patrick’s career, future team-ups and being ‘Opa’ to three grandkids
Arnold Schwarzenegger is finally opening up about his relationship with his son, Patrick Schwarzenegger. In a recent interview with AARP, the actor and former governor of California stated that despite his history in the industry, his son “never” asks him for help, instead relying “much more on his own instincts.” Arnold also teased what would have to happen for him to do a movie or TV show with Patrick in the future. Scroll down to read what he has to say.
Arnold Schwarzenegger spills on his relationship with Patrick Schwarzenegger
Patrick was born in 1993, back when his father, Arnold, was married to Maria Shriver. He then began acting in 2006, before going viral in early 2025 for his role as Saxon Ratliff in Season 3 of The White Lotus.
“He just always works his butt off and does the reps, reps, reps. He rehearses, he practices and he’s really good at those readings and getting those big jobs. I’m very, very proud of him. And I think he’s going to go all the way in his career,” Arnold told AARP of his son.

Arnold also shared that, despite being a huge name in Hollywood, Patrick has never really asked him for help breaking into the industry.
“Whenever Patrick asks me about anything, I give him advice, of course. But I would say that he has not really asked me that much for advice. I think that he knows that I had a certain approach and that he may have to use a different approach, because it was a different generation when I got into the movie business,” Arnold explained. “He’s relying much more on his own instincts, and that’s why he doesn’t ask many questions about who should be his agent, or who should be a manager of his, or what movie he should do, or could I make a phone call for him to get into the door, or anything like that— never.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger teases a team-up between him and his son
Since both Arnold and Patrick are actors, people all over the world have been wondering if they would ever team up to create a film or TV show together. And while Arnold said he would, “I would love to have my son in any of my movies or me being in any of his, because it would be fun to work together,” he does think that for that to happen, it needs to be “organic.”

“It has to be natural. It has to be really believable,” he continued. “Otherwise, it looks like a bunch of producers just threw this thing together to have us both in a movie.”
Arnold’s thoughts on being a grandfather to three
Along with being a father, Arnold is also a grandfather, thanks to his daughter Katherine Schwarzenegger, who welcomed three children in 2020, 2022 and 2024.
“They come over every week and play with my animals and feed them and help me clean the stall and all that stuff,” Arnold told AARP. “They’re really into it. And they just love to visit Opa. That’s what they call me, Opa—grandpa in German.”

“It’s fun how your bloodline just keeps going on and on and on. You watch your kids, your sons, your daughters, and you feel like there’s a certain part of them that’s like me,” he continued. “And then you see the grandkids, and they adopt the personality of their parents. It’s really fun to watch that. What makes it also fun is that when you don’t want to be with them anymore, they go home!”
Arnold is 77 years old and recently starred as Luke Brunner in Season 2 of FUBAR.
