Dolly Parton Donates 100 Millionth Children’s Book, Proves Good People Still Exist

We can always count on Dolly Parton to lift our spirits! In the midst of so many tragic events happening in the world today, we couldn’t be happier to hear some wonderful news from the legendary country singer. The country music star and ultimate role model just donated her 100 millionth book. The astounding feat looks even more impressive when we write that whole number out: 100,000,000. (That’s a lot of zeroes.)

Parton traveled to Washington D.C. yesterday to deliver this 100 millionth donation from her Imagination Library to the Library of Congress. Her Imagination Library, which she founded back in 1996, sends free books to kids — regardless of their parents’ incomes — until they’re old enough to start school. It’s since become an international program, with operations in countries like Australia, Canada, and the UK. This most recent donation marks one of the biggest milestones for Parton yet.

“It makes me feel proud of who I am, where I’m from, and the fact that I am in a position to help people and especially the kids,” she said. “It’s so important to me because if you can teach children to read they can dream and if you dream you can be successful.”

It’s especially meaningful to Parton because she started the whole program in honor of her father — a hardworking man who never got the chance to learn to read or write. She said he lived long enough to hear kids start calling her the “book lady.”

“Yesterday, when we put the book in the Library of Congress, I really felt like mom and daddy were just up there looking down thinking, ‘You go,'” she said. “So I felt really proud that I could honor momma and daddy.”

Thanks for honoring your family and dreaming big for these kids, Dolly! You’re truly an inspiration to us all — at any age.
