‘Duck Dynasty’ Korie and Willie Robertson Debut Faith-Based Films as a ‘Safe Space’ for Their Kids: ‘We Protect Them’

The world first got to know Willie and Korie Robertson back in 2012 when they and their family debuted on Duck Dynasty. The hit reality series gave viewers an up-close look at the Robertson crew and their family business, Duck Commanders, which produces duck calls and hunting materials. In addition to Willie, Korie and their children, the series also introduced fan-favorite characters such as Willie’s eccentric Uncle Si, his sharp-witted mother Miss Kay and his no-nonsense father Phil, who recently passed away after battling a series of health issues.

Though they rose to fame in the reality television sphere, over the last few years, Willie and Korie have made an unexpected yet fruitful pivot to the film world. In 2023, they produced The Blind, which chronicled the tumultuous love story of Phil and Miss Kay as Phil struggled with addiction and strayed from his marriage before being guided by faith in this story of redemption. 

Now, through eKKL, the entertainment platform they helped launch, they will share with the world yet another inspiring tale when Elijah Peel releases on August 14. Willie and Korie serve as executive producers on this uplifting story about a rock star who suffers a heart attack after years of fame and addiction take their toll. As he’s recovering, he meets a young girl fighting a battle of her own who teaches him more than years on the road ever could have. 

Here, they discuss with Woman’s World what prompted them to make this transition—and how their children influence which films they bring to life. 

Willie and Korie Robertson enter the film world

When discussing this new facet of their careers, Korie opened up about what led them to this new chapter. “Our family loves storytelling and is all about storytelling, and after we did Duck Dynasty and we saw the impact of that, we were like, ‘Oh. God gave us this space. He put us on this platform of entertainment, so what else can we do with that to just reflect the love of Jesus?” 

They first did so when they produced The Blind, and on August 14, Elijah Peel will tell another story of redemption and second chances. “You have a man who’s at the top of his game, and he’s got all the things in the world that he thinks he’s been chasing after, and then life throws him a huge curveball with his health and where he’s at, which makes this big season of reflection, which I feel like we all have been,” Willie explained.

Bringing these stories to life is a way for them to spread messages of hope, but there’s one group of people who heavily guide which projects they pursue: their children and grandchildren. 

“I think anyone who has a family, has kids in their home, we’re like, okay, how do we protect them from what’s out there in the world?,” Korie expressed. “It does feel a little bit scary right now, all these platforms, all these streaming devices, all this access to our children and their little hearts and their minds, and so, how do we create a safe space for them in our homes through our televisions and through the entertainment that we have? And I think it is about telling good stories.” 

Willie and Korie’s journey reminds us that it’s never too late to discover a new purpose—and that when we follow our faith and put family first, beautiful things unfold.
