Eva LaRue Opens Up About Her 3 Marriages, Tragic Loss and Why She’s Focusing on Herself Now
The soap star shares heartbreaking details about love, loss and finding strength in friendship
Most people know Eva LaRue from her time on either All My Children or General Hospital. And while those shows are quite dramtic—they are soap operas after all—they aren’t even close to what the actress has experienced behind the scenes in her three marriages, all of which ended in divorce. Below, we share what exactly happened in each relationship, and if LaRue is currently dating.
Eva LaRue and John O’Hurley
LaRue was married to actor and game show host Eva LaRue and John O’Hurley from 1992 to 1994. Details on how the two met, fell in love and eventually separated do remain a mystery, but the actress did tell Closer Weekly in 2020, “We’re still great friends.”
She also said that while they were together, O’Hurley was quite the comedian.
“There was a funny, pretentious character that he would go into at home when he was goofing around, even before he did Seinfeld,” she told the outlet.
O’Hurley is now 71-years-old and has been married to Lisa Mesloh since 2004. They have one child together.
Eva LaRue and John Callahan
Two years after divorcing O’Hurley, LaRue married actor John Callahan, whom she met while filming All My Children. They welcomed a daughter named Kaya McKenna Callahan in 2001, before splitting up in 2005.
Callahan did tragically die from a stroke in 2020, which LaRue has commented on several times.
“It’s been a roller coaster, losing a co-parent and somebody who’s been a great friend for your entire adult life. He was still on my emergency contact lists and always wanted to know my travel plans. He’d check in when I landed and got back home again [to see if] I was safe. Nobody else was caring on that level. I will miss that forever,” she told Closer. “He went to the hospital for routine heart procedures and was supposed to spend the night for surveillance, but he was so afraid of catching COVID that he insisted on leaving.”
“The next day, Kaya was going to stay with him, but the morning after he had a stroke and passed away that night. Somebody broke into his house four days later and stole his car, laptop, checkbooks and identity,” she continued. “They took out almost $80,000 in loans and $75,000 from one of his accounts before we could tell institutions that he had passed. The wagons are circling around this person. We just want it all to end, and to be able to grieve without the extra stress.”
Eva LaRue and Joe Cappuccio
LaRue’s third and final marriage was to businessman Joe Cappuccio. They were together from 2010 to 2014, and said that “irreconcilable differences” were the reason for their divorce.
“It’s more about forgiving yourself, no matter what somebody else did. It’s human to blame the other person,” she told Closer. “But when we process it, we see things we didn’t do the way we wish we had. I wasn’t really able, until the last five to 10 years, to say, ‘I need to not focus on anybody else. I have to look at things I don’t like about me.”
Is Eva LaRue currently dating anyone?
Following her three marriages LaRue hasn’t publicly shared if she’s daring anyone. She has instead chosen to focus on her acting career, life as a mother and time with her friends.
“Having that community of great girlfriends is emotionally stabilizing,” LaRue told Woman’s World last year. “The big trips are amazing, but even when we just hole up for two or three days together at someone’s house, it’s like a balm for the soul.”
