Scott Eastwood and Clint Eastwood: Inside Their Famous Father-Son Relationship
Find out why Scott spent half of his childhood in Hawaii and the other half in California
Clint Eastwood is one of the Hollywood greats, having redefined the Western genre and charmed generation after generation of fans, so it’s no surprise to hear that he inspired his own blood. The actor’s second-born son, Scott Eastwood, is a renowned actor in his own right, having starred in films like Gran Torino (2008), Texas Chainsaw (2013), The Longest Ride (2015) and most recently, Regretting You (2025).
But just because Scott followed in his father’s footsteps, it doesn’t mean that he was handed his fame on a silver platter. In truth, Scott had to work hard for all of his accomplishments and make a name for himself.
“My dad never gave me a cent,” Scott recalled. “He made me work for everything.”

The early years: finding family, facing challenges—and changing his name
Scott was born of an affair between Clint and Jacelyn Reeves on March 21, 1986. He grew up living with his mother in Hawaii, but later moved to California to live with his father, where he attended high school. It was during those years that Scott and Clint grew closer as father and son.
“I lived with my mom in Hawaii until I pissed her off,” Scott recalled. “And then I came to live with my dad and pissed him off.”
As the fifth-born child of the legendary actor, he isn’t the first of his kids to embark on an entertainment career. After graduating from high school, Scott began acting, but he used his mother’s maiden name, Reeves, so that he could avoid nepotism and being cast for his famous last name.

He later booked a few minor roles, some in his father’s movies, but Scott explained that he was often rejected by casting agents. He nonetheless worked his way up, booking smaller parts as Scott Reeves, and when he felt he had earned the right to use the Eastwood name in 2008, he began doing so.
On-set stories: Becoming an Eastwood & working with Dad

Even before he began using the Eastwood name, Scott auditioned for his father’s movies and while the roles may have been minor ones, he got to experience what it was like to work with his dad. Scott detailed the days he spent on set with Clint and what their relationship is like outside of work.
“He’s tougher on me when I work with him,” Scott said. “He doesn’t want any favoritism at all—Invictus, Trouble With the Curve, Gran Torino, Flags of Our Fathers—he was tough on me on all of them but outside of that, we have a great father/son relationship.”
The father-son duo is very close off-set, with Clint serving as a mentor for Scott and giving him words of wisdom, both for his career and life.
Life lessons from Clint: the fatherly advice that shaped Scott
Having Clint Eastwood as a father can make acting seem like a daunting career path, but for Scott, it wasn’t a choice—it was his calling. And while Clint hasn’t given his son any free passes when it comes to scoring movie roles or special treatment, he has given him advice that’s helped his career flourish.
“He doesn’t want any favoritism at all”
“I remember something he told me early on,” Scott said of his father. “I don’t remember how old I was when you told me this, Dad. But you said, ‘As an actor, I never went back to my trailer. I always hung out on set and learned.’ That stuck with me.”
