Kathie Lee Gifford Says This 3-World Mantra Is the Key to Building Lasting Relationships
Talk show superstar Kathie Lee Gifford may be best known for hosting Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee and TODAY, but she’s also an incredibly accomplished writer. In fact, she recently opened up to Woman’s World about all she’s learned about building friendships and romantic relationships ahead of the release of her new book, The Jesus I Know.
Gifford says that her father was the one who gave her the best advice for tackling any relationship. “My dad really, really wanted me to have a skill when I was growing up. Find something you love to do and then figure out a way to get paid for it,” she explained. “He would say things like, ‘Kathie make sure you can make a living because I don’t want you to have to marry the first jerk who comes along.’ My father saw the struggle of my grandmother and he never forgot it, so he had a real heart for women and how difficult life is, and he didn’t want me to need a man in that way financially.”
On top of that, she learned from him the importance of making sure you have good people around you. “Show me your friends and I’ll show you want your heart is,” she explains. “Surround yourself with people that value you, accept you, are trustworthy … We’re all going to stumble at times, but if you are walking with a friend, chances are they’ll catch you. “
Above all, Gifford wants to be remembered as someone who treated everyone with kindness and respect. “My daddy would take a person’s hand in both of his and say, ‘Thank you kindly,'” she reflects. “So, maybe we just live with that attitude: Thank you kindly.” What incredible advice to live by.
And while you’re at it, don’t forget to pick up the latest issue of our magazine, Woman’s World, (buy on newsstands now or on Magazine Shop, $3.49) where Kathie Lee Gifford talks about her holiday plans, her go-to stress busters, and more.
