Some Hollywood friendships are simply built to last, and the bond between Lacey Chabert and Jonathan Bennett has been strong for over 20 years. The duo first crossed paths when they both appeared in the 2004 comedy Mean Girls, and since then, their booming Hallmark careers have allowed them to stay close year after year. Here, a look into their friendship and what they’ve said about one another over the years.
Lacey Chabert and Jonathan Bennett both left their mark on ‘Mean Girls’
In Mean Girls, Lacey Chabert played the iconic Gretchen Wieners, one of Regina George’s close pals. Meanwhile, Jonathan Bennett brought Aaron Samuels to life, the love interest of Lindsay Lohan’s Cady Heron. Both actors brought something uniquely hilarious to the film, and they remained close in the years that followed. Now, both have become fixtures on the Hallmark Channel, but it’s still that Mean Girls link that’ll always tie them together.

Bennett told E! News, “You know, I always say there’s certain people that don’t understand what your life is like, and I think Lacey is one of the people that get it, because when you’re part of something like Mean Girls, no one can really understand what it’s like to be in a movie like that.”
He continued, “Like, it’s a very weird thing and cool thing in pop culture, but, like, I said, ‘Lacey, have you ever gone to a Starbucks and they not write Gretchen Wieners on your cup?’ You know what I mean? Like every time I go, it’s like ‘Aaron Samuels.’ And that’s just what it is. So I think we share a special bond that lasts forever.”
Lacey Chabert and Jonathan Bennett on Hallmark
Though Jonathan Bennett and Lacey Chabert have only acted in one Hallmark film together, Elevator Girl (2010), they’ve both enjoyed individual careers on the network for years. Jonathan even appeared on an episode of Lacey’s Hallmark+ reality series, Celebrations with Lacey Chabert, but it’s a Christmas film by her side that he’s after.
“I want to do a Christmas movie with Lacey,” Jonathan told Decider back in 2025. “We haven’t done one yet and I think that would be really fun just to reconnect. We haven’t done that yet. I think we both want to, we’re just trying to figure out what that looks like and what the right one is.”
Jonathan and Lacey have love for each other

Whether they’re acting alongside one another or not, the connection that exists between these two is undeniable, and Jonathan shared a sweet tribute to his friend on Instagram back in 2020, highlighting just how important their friendship is to him.
“There are certain people that come into your life and it’s never the same again,” he wrote.
“Sixteen years ago this beautiful girl went shopping with me at the mall, and I was awestruck by her heart and her beauty. Little did I know that she would be a rock for me throughout the next 16 years and see me through the ups and downs of life and show business. She has stood by me and been a beacon of light and love when I have felt lost. So today I want to just send her extra love for just being her. The world is better because you are in it. @thereallacey.”
Does it get any sweeter than that? Lacey and Jonathan’s long-lasting friendship is inspiring, and we’ve got our fingers crossed that this duo reunites on screen very soon!
